  1. This may seem rudimentary, but did you wash your hands and arms before you went into the tank? I lost half my fish one night after changing water and re-arranging the bottom. The only thing I could come up with is that I introduced something into the tank by not washing properly. You never know what you might bring home with you on your hands.
  2. You can check with Henry at Natures Corner too, I'll bet he knows http://www.naturescornerstore.com/contact_us.html
  3. Just come up to the pond next to the hwy by Morinville, Lift a few rocks and you will go home with a 1 gal pail in about 10 minutes. Put them in a tank to quarantine for about 2 weeks and feed. Flowerhorns liked them, so bass should too. Which hwy and what lake? I'm very interested in going here! Hwy #2 north to Morinville. Don't take the first exit, go around the bend, up on the overpass and take that exit, turn left at the stop sign and the "lake" for lack of a better term is on your left. I think the entrance is a little further down the road.
  4. Ya, the shipping would kill it, but thankx anyway. Up there in Ft. McMoney I guess you have even less choice than I down here huh?
  5. Q: Why do aquarists like nitrates so much? A: They're cheaper than day rates.
  6. Doesn't it just frost ya right off???? I ended up buying a bag at 'All Seasons' here in Edmonton. I understand the caution but Jeez! come on! Anyone who wants to build a bomb wouldn't use KNO3 in the first place and wouldn't buy small quantities either. Are we going to be held hostage forever??
  7. I appreciate it Werner, thankx, but if I buy in Calgary it would cost me too much for transport, being DG and all. Rick
  8. Thankx Werner And you have no trouble getting it? Apachie Seeds here says they can't even buy it and I can't find it any where else either. They all claim it's a restricted chemical because you can make a bomb with it, even though that's one of the other potassium ferts.
  9. I'm having trouble finding Potasium Nitrate in a larger quantity. I've obtained it previously from Four Seasons off Whyte Ave. but I'd like to get a larger quantity. Those 2 kg buckets are expensive enough from there, I'd hate to see what 25 lbs would be. I use 4-6 TBS a week in a 175 gl tank and it doesn't take long to use up a little bucket. This is why I'd like to get a 50 lb bag, but apparently, according to Apachie Seeds, it can't be got. Now the question: Is there another source of nitrate ferts, in Edmonton, for our tanks?
  10. Thankx Jason That's something to consider. Would you mind looking to see what the NPK ratio is for me?
  11. Thank you Werner Is the clay absorbed by the subsrate over time or does it build up? Rick
  12. What type of tabs do you use? What is the breakdown? N.P.K.? Where do you buy them? Thankx all Rick
  13. I don't have personal experience with UGF's but I have read many times where they are not good in the long run. Apparently, the toxins build up under the substrate and cause big trouble. I think you would be better off with a canister, myself, especially on an 80 gl.
  14. That is a pretty silly thing to fire someone over. Fired because someone shoplifted while he helped a customer. This store is owned by Orientals and they are very big on Honour. I'm sure in their eyes, Arnold lost face. The woman responsible needs to step forward, in private, and restore his honour.
  15. Pm me your phone number, and I will pass it on to him. He was fired because someone returned an item, and then walked out of the store with said item when it was left on the counter while Arnold went to serve another customer. That person needs to make amends for this. I know who it is and will see if she steps up to the plate. Now that this has been brought up on the forum. That's not a good thing. Costing a guy his job is just wrong. I sure hope she steps forward to do the right thing. I wish Arnold all the luck. Rick
  16. Some of you may know Arnold at AquaGiant. He made a sudden departure from the store and vanished. Does anyone here know him and could put me in touch with him? Rick
  17. Do you know what kind of paint it is, Lisa? There are several different products to use, all of them toxic. Goof-Off, paint stripper, go to a body shop supply and get reducer or gun cleaner. Or you could scrape the paint off, but this will likely scratch the glass. It's interesting to see how many more suggestions come in. Rick
  18. Hey there you could try one of your local window companies for glass. Try these guys: http://www.concepttanks.com/ They are associated with Aquarium Illusions. They make custom tanks so they must have the glass in stock. Rick thanks rick, someone posted that in my other link. If I went to Aquarium Illusions they could do it for me? Boy, you answer fast. I edited that post right after I posted it the first thime. Now I'm not sure if they are the ones that are associated with Aquarium Illusions, but yes Aquarium I. will order the glass for you.

  20. You can go to a Home Depot or Revy type store and get a reducing barb. That will work.

Check with Natures Corner, 433 fish 9082 51 ave. They are supporting venders on here, mention to Gillian or Henry that you saw them on here. I'm sure that they can help you out.
  22. No, not in the least, as long as it's new and clean, I can't see any problems.
  23. Is there a Princess Auto in Red Deer? That's where I get mine here in Edmunchuk.
  24. This will be interesting. I haven't found any site yet that will ship live criters to Canada, too much BS to make it worthwhile for small orders, is what I've been told. Rick
  25. Are you serious? 12 degrees??? I'm calling in sick to work if my tank drops 2 or 3 overnight. Sorry!!! Mis-print. I forgot to put in the -. As in 1-2 degrees. Is that better? It might as well be 12 degrees. I lost most of the fish in the tank over night. I dosed with Seachems' "KanaPlex" last night and tonight when I got home---mass carnage. Poopy darns.
