  1. They look very happy Great video shows off their amazing colors and the males are showing off for the girls in a spectacular fashion.
  2. Removing the eggs seems easy and it wont hurt.......I would put them in a small tank with an airstone or sponge filter at the same temp; they should hatch just fine. J
  3. OSCARS can be very shy and do not like change. He or she would like to hide, so if you can provide some cover- so he feels more secure -he will likely come around in bit (maybe a couple of weeks.) I would try an earthworm for food. Also see if the temp is around 78 a bit warmer is good. John
  4. Indeed, very nice. Not something you see often. John
  5. With 2 angels at full size there is not a lot of room for more fish. Also the natural diet for angel fish are neons so it is possible they will get eaten. Depending on your water change regimen and filtration be careful to add too many more.

I added a premix KNO3 that I purchased from the south side Edmonton hydroponic store and it was suggested to add it at 5 x the dry dose. My questions : 1./In a heavily planted 30 gallon where I routinely measure 10 ppm Nitrates; why add KNO3? 2./ When I did add the solution (1 cc) the Nitrates went to 20 ppm, doesn't that harm the fish long term. 3./ My admittedly little research suggest that 5-10 ppm No3 is plenty for plant growth, is that not correct. 4,/ Am I totally missing the point? John
  8. You can use a lot of plants for this. I have some you can come and get in Edmonton. Alway's something overgrown around here. John
  9. Just gorgeous pics. O, nice fish to J
  10. Actually very easy to take care of. 1./ WC 40- 50 % per week 2 ./ give food clean poop Fry need very small food to start 50 - 100 microns in size. Then live BBS after about a week to 10 day's,BBS make a huge difference for growing up from my recent personal experience. You can also rear them with vinegar eels, white worm and crushed fry food and green water. Juvi's over 1 inch can eat 1/5 or 1mm pellets or a good quality flake food. Live foods seem to make a great difference when growing up and feeding life foods several times per week for ever, makes a difference that is visible. They will do fine and even thrive with a high quality pellet however. In your local fish store they run from $8 -20 each as juvi's. for the common variety's. On line a bit less but then there is shipping. From breeders depending on the variety and size from 1-15 each. You also find the not so common fish from the local breeders. Hope that helps John
  11. Great info Ric! I was debating over Lake Atynjo versus Lacorte but decided on the former, because the Lacorte may be a linebred Boesmani (I am not sure about that though) Gorgeous for sure as well! Your Melanotaenia splendida splendida "Deepwater Creek" are reserved I am trilled to have picked up the M. Nigrans; while only 1.5 " now they are showing some color on the fins and are very active and curious. J

    Xp3 Issue

Val have a look at the shaft and the impeller and the opening for the magnet; perhaps it is clogged and you don't get the full force of the water. I rock mine back and forth a few times while it is running to expel the air if it is noisy for more than an hour. John
  13. Very nice. I tried this plant but failed...It needs very high light CO2 and a Ph of below 7 I believe to do well. J
  14. There will be quite a variety of rainbows including: P. Gertrudia Aru 2, M.Nigrans, M. boesmani Lake Atynjo, M. herbertaxelrodii, M.splendida deep water creek, M. Aru 4 ,M.preacox and others, in the Edmonton area in the next year or so. I and several others are working with these as we speak. Getting fish from Ric in Calgary right now is always possible as there are free rides available. John
  15. That's rainbows: always changing. always very active. I love working with these fish......mostly watching though.
  16. A 110 gallon would be able to handle the 3 fish you have now only. In addition you would need to do a minimum of 50 % water change a week. If you add the other 2 fish you would need to change 50 % water 3 times a week. Bigger trouble will come with the fighting for territory among the oscars and it is unlikely more than 2 would survive in the end. John
  17. On a pressurized system install a solenoid on a timer that shuts off an hour before lights out, and on 1/2 hr before lights on On a DIY undo the tubing at the bottle HTH
  18. Could you post a location for the folks (folks ....notice the Calgary speak) from Edmonton Please and thanks John
  19. . Aside from aquariums, I like canoeing, fishing, scuba diving and snorkeling. That is all for now! Cheers! -Cen Sounds like you are a "mermaid' welcome to the forum. John
  20. Those bulbs put out a lot of heat. However at 4" above should not cause a problem unless the glass was stressed (internal flaw) Have any glass shop cut some thicker pieces 4-5 mm should do just fine. Kinges are the next problem with that. HTH J
  21. I would think you would need an export license from the Dominican..perhaps a fishing license as well..bringing them into Canada should not be a problem, unless they are endangered or cold water fish J
  22. Play sand works well or SIL Industries on 17 street and hwy 16 has I believe # 9 sand that works great Needs weekly vacuuming like everything else but the poop tends to stay on top so that makes it easy You will need 160 lbs. Will not affect PH and is used by many. J
  23. Hi there aquarium gurus one and all! Where can I buy a needle valve for CO2 in Edmonton? Thanks John
