  1. Here is a journal of the setup and planting of a 60 gallon Hagen Waterhome Euro Style Aquarium. I had been watching this tank and stand at a new local pet store, but the price tag (with light, gravel, heaters, cheap filter, plastic plants, net, etc) was too much. On the next visit to the store, the tank was by the door (waiting for me) with a new sales price tag! The filter has just floss and foam in it for now and the heater is warming up the water. I have cut a hole into a AquaClear 70 foam to keep plants and rocks out of the canister filter. A few giant duckweed plants have been added with macro and micro fertilizers. No sense having a clean tank for too long  I rinsed a pre-filter sponge from my 90 gallon planted mbuna tank in the water. I hope to trap some of this material in the layers of substrate that will be added next. I added 3 bags of flourite to the tank after rinsing out the dust. Time for more yucky stuff. I took the ehiem canister filter off my 90 gallon tank and put half of the used filter media into the new filter. A bunch of the "goop" from the used filter was added to the tank. Now its really dirty... you really don't want to see a picture of that... Next I added the last 3 bags of rinsed flourite and mixed it all together. By morning the water should be clear.
  2. Try sticking your hand in the water and using just half of the magnetic cleaner. You can apply more pressure to the cleaner part this way.
  3. Are you using a check valve in the tubing? Make sure it is installed the correct way Hot water will kill yeast, recommended temperature is 100-110 (40 C). How do I proof yeast to test for activity? To proof yeast, add 1 teaspoon sugar to 1/4 cup warm water (100° to 110°F). Stir in 1 envelope yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons); let stand 10 minutes. If the yeast foams to the 1/2 cup mark, it is active and you may use it in your recipe. Ideal temperature ranges are 100°F-110°F, when yeast is dissolved directly in water; 120°F-130°F when undissolved yeast is added to dry ingredients.
  4. If you are taking the link from Photobucket, there is no need to use the Image button to insert a picture. Just click on the "IMG CODE" box below the picture and paste that into AA. Your HTML code for a image would look like this... IMG]http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii229/cowdog1/polishing/IMG_6504e1.jpg[/img but with the square brackets around the IMG tags. If you use the "Direct Link" code box from Photobucket, you will get a clickable link like this: http://s265.photobucket.com/albums/ii229/c...nt=f31a9cf3.pbw I always use the Preview Post button to check to see if the pictures will show up in the post. If you move or delete the pictures in your photobucket account, then all the links to that picture will not work anymore. Good luck 2007 Arctic Cat 700 EFI with polished aluminum LED light bar (6 red LED and 1-3 watt high power LED)...
  5. I bought a used steel 10 pound cylinder in Edmonton for under $80 about 1 year ago. I can't remember the name of the store, but they are on the west side of 75 Street, NW. at about 52 Ave.
  6. I had 2 of these "unknown" lucky bamboo given to be and both were placed in a 20g planted. One was long enough of a stem to reach the bottom and have its roots in the substrate without the leaves in the water. This plant is growing like mad. The other was a short plant and with the leaves above water, the stem only went down about 5 inches into the water. It lasted about a 1 year before wilting away. It never did grow much. I have since moved the surviver bamboo to a fry tank as I thought the bamboo was robbing all the nutrients and causing a algae problem.
  7. I find with mine that the hose will plug very easy right at the sink. I have to reverse the flow of water a few times per tank (planted) to clear out this material or the suction will not be good. Once the suction has started, you can shut off the tap water and the water will still siphon out of the tank if the sink is not too high.
  8. If I remember right, it was the alcohol (ethanol) that ended up killing off the yeast, thus ending the production of the CO2. The idea sounds like it would make the yeast mixture last longer, but it also sounds 3x more likely to make a huge mess
  9. I typed "red sea paint ball cga" into google and the first page on the top mentions the number is CGA 580... http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/general-...-long-will.html Another place to try to find an adapter is a Camping and RV store. I think the adaptor might be the same as used on propane campstoves (Coleman).

  11. Thanks for that bit of info. I'm going to see if I can source the Cerium Oxide and the buffer locally instead of giving their Canadian store in Port Perry a call. Caswell Canada has very fast shipping. I get the packages from them in 2-3 days from time of placing the order. They also have a forum for asking questions about how to use the products. http://forum.caswellplating.com/ http://forum.caswellplating.com/metal-poli...per-polish.html
  12. You can use buff wheels and compounds to buff glass, but I have not tried it... yet www.caswellplating.com http://www.caswellplating.com/buffs/glass.htm
  13. I have the Milwaukee combo and I have had no troubles with it. I have even emptied 2 bottles right out without any problems.

    FX5 Hoses

UFA stores carry a clear hose called CLEAR PVC FLEX TUBING. I use it for W/C and I am not sure if it is suitable for direct contact with the water.
  15. I found this thread which says to call the factory to order parts. http://www.tetracare.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5602 http://www.tetra-fish.com/contactus.aspx
  16. Very nice flowers! You should help with a paint brush as indoors we don't have wind and bugs to pollinate. I could find some bees for you to help.

    filter sytem

Strange, I use canisters filters and find them way less maintenance than the AC filters. In my hard water, the AC motors seem to get gummed up and need cleaning monthly or the motor will stop even though the media is not that dirty. Yet the canister filter in the same tank can go 3 months between opening up. I also find I can get water clearer with polish pads in my canister filter than with a HOB. An AC110 or 500 is rated for 110 gallon tank. Depending on fish load you may want to add another filter.
  18. You can wire a humidistat to control a fan (like bathroom fan) which will blow the moist air out when the humidity gets too high.
  19. You should get 3/4 inch thick plywood.
  20. The motor from the AC200 might just fit onto the body of the AC300. The flow may be less than the AC300 had, but the extra room for media is a bonus. I would run 2 filters and then stagger the cleaning dates of the filters by a couple of weeks.

  23. Pick plants that match your tank lighting. Be careful as some pet stores will sell you plants that are NOT aquatic. Plant List
  24. Adding substrate will not make much difference in the weight of the tank. If you add 5 gallons of gravel, then you lose 5 gallons of water capacity in the tank.
  25. Panted Aquariums??? Would that have something to do with wet T-shirts?
