  1. I would say most stem plants can be propagated in this fashion - I know of none that cannot. Although some volunteer more readily then others. The photo I posted above is of one stem. I stretched it across the substrate to give each node a spot in the sun. There are now nine or so good crowns, all of which could be trimmed and replanted. On your plant we can see new growth @ each section; the ones below each shaded by the one above. No-one would consider buying half a dozen potted plants and stacking them one atop the other. By putting it down flat each little baby gets a full shot 'o sun.
  2. If I see correctly there is new growth on the far left stem. Is good 'ja ? With stem plants see every node as a individual plant. Humour me - and plant one of those horizontaly. If they take, it will be the horizontal stem that achieves the highest mass.
  3. I lived in the Lamplighter on 121 ST many years back. Many a morning we woke up to +29C before 8 AM. We spent a month or two naked. If you temps approach the same - things could get sketchy. Regardless of what you do, perhaps give this a read. BeanAnimal chiller myths "you may want to consider evaporative cooling! It is the most efficient way to cool a tank. You get over 8000 BTUs of cooling per gallon of water evaporated!"
  4. PM'd LED flashlights are becoming very common and inexpensive. Add up the voltage on the required batteries and wire it to a matching transformer.
  5. Only if you disregard the fact that the O.P. is a P.O. :chair:
  6. I found this link after digging deeper into the Apisto site posted by Jayba. Would be tough to observe - hard to tell one white spec from another! http://apisto.sites.no/page.aspx?PageId=58

Are you proposing EI needs re-righting? They say da Vinci could freehand a perfect circle, apparently he is not alone. Easter is over and you just hatched an ovoid there. If you read that paragraph backwards it says 95% of the heads of state agree we are powerless against the biggest contributor of algae. Is adequate CO2 not a prerequisite in any highlight scenario?

"The ideas I will explain had been discovered during my work as aquarium gardener and had been confirmed with positive feedback during the last 5 years at the most important Spanish speaching forum, so this is not speculation. The MCI had over 100.000 reads since it was published and algae is not an issue any more for us. I believe that one of the mayor issues about algae is confusion. If we read about them in books, we can find that very important authors assert that some of them blooms because of excess of No3 or Po4. When I read this I understand that this person has no idea why algae blooms. The most popular fertilizing methods don’t take enough attention to algae. Some of them focus attention in Co2, other asserts that to reach the balance will solve the problem. It just doesn’t happened! On the other hand, the EI asserts that algae blooms because of lack of Co2, Light or fertilizing. The idea is well oriented, but incomplete. Proper Co2 and light are too basic, so I prefer work with them as prerequisites." http://ozgur.pixelblind.net/?p=32

Ok , well @ this point two hours is not going to be enough to read this one. This method allows for amounts of light . It also explains the limitation of potassium.
  10. Yes, I have a single 400 Watt Ushio MH sitting over one side - right on the glass, on a 75 gallon. Has been running like that for a couple years now. All it takes is a ton of CO2, and a realllly strong stomach. It can be problematic, although it can be done. Yes, we have seen these photos before. But I like 'em
  11. Parents are dedicated cannibals. If you were hoping to raise some fry up, you will need to separate them immediately. Crushed flake and powdered krill will get them by.

  13. I do not want to know what you paid for that camera , , , although it was obviously worth every penny !! As always, excellent shots Patrick
  14. I seem to recall reading that an inch a year is par for growth on a mossball. Division is exactly that , , , one ball diveded into two = yeah :shifty: two balls As per the tears. Many of our aquarium plants are terr./bog plants. I have had "Helzine" labeled as baby tears. It could not abide life in the bikini bottom.
  15. As for noise I predict 0 dBA It will just sit there looking all quiet and pretty  until you purchase an equaly exspensive pressure pump :flex: to drive it.
  16. A tightly fitting cover could actualy stop growth. As seen here in the CO² DEPLETION graphic ****link is toast***** Try this one http://journal.ashsp...6/1265.full.pdf " There is general agreement that co2enrichment is very beneficial under commercial situations, especially during winter when the greenhouses are tightly sealed and the CO2 concentration can decline considerably below ambient levels (Porter and Grodzinski, 1985). ******************************************************** ALSO "When the irradiance level was 1000 mmol·m–2·s–1 PAR or greater (Figs. 2 and 5 d–f), CO2 levels of 1400 to 2000 / ml·liter–1 were required to saturate the whole-plant photosynthetic response. ************************************************************************ ALSO In an analysis of day effects, irradiance, CO2 concentration, and temperature contributed 58%, 23%, and 14%, respectively
  17. This is the replacement product NB + Duty / GST http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_showCart.aspx?scType=add Have not seen the Coralvue yet in Canada.
  18. I know there were are LFS selling these for around $300. Now that Ice Cap has lost its last 21 grams there are bargains to be had. I am looking for feedback. Do you have an IceCap ? how long have you had it ? Have you ever had one fail? I guess as things stand right now the golden question is - would you pay $116.00 for a new/ in box 660 ?
  19. Would 'ya consider yourself handsome or handy ? If the system has an electronic ballast it will fire shorter bulbs - no trubs Treat the electronics as a retrofit kit and place the tombstones as far apart as you require. The only cost involved is replaceing the bulbs. As you are going shorter anyhow this is an un-avoidable exspense. As per the heat issue , , , dwarf cichlids are going to be comfy around 27 or so ? Just skip the heater; T lighting will not raise the temps that much.
  20. Two thoughts here looks like rotala or possibly ludwiga looks like you have to much and as such should begin sharing
  21. For what its worth, I have had a thumb sized chunk in a nano for a few years now. It ( the stone) has not changed shape/ colour / appearance in that time. Fish, plants and invertz seem fine.
  22. Sure you can let it run 24/7; that will only get you in trouble if the lights stay off for more than 16 hours afterwards.
  23. Is this happening to a specific plant or a variety of plants?
