  1. Hi Neil, what is TDS a measurement of please?
  2. I heard that venustus cichlids actually play dead and await smaller fish to come and eat them.
  3. Let's not turn this thread into a VENDOR REVIEW, please.
  4. Many people wait only a couple of days. For a resealed tank I wait about a week if the sillicone has been applied liberally. For decor once the vinegar smell has faded I'm happy to add the decor to the tank. No matter what I have silliconed I ALWAYS wait atleast three days though.
  5. You need to change your time/region settings under your profile options.
  6. They're fine uder water so long as when you take them out you don't let water drip down the power cord to the power outlet. I have two in my 135 gallon about 16" deep.
  7. It will just blow the sand immediately around it. My black sand never really gets blown more than 4cm up before it falls back down. Doesn't make a mess of the tank and doesn't cause the sand to get into the pumps.
  8. I think the 180 would benefit from the XP3 however I would personally put the XP3 on the 55 and move the AC500 to the 180 to help with the mechanical filtration and to increase amount of oxygen in the water.
  9. Never realised this thread would generate so much discussion. Just wondering if J-Roc wanted to comment on the issue?
  10. Didn't someone in Australia come up with a nifty fish holding jacket design a couple of months back???
  11. I have a female senegalus which is very active. She is only 6" but gets along well with my 16" arowana and puffers. No one cares about her and I have yet to see her show interest in anyone else. An awesome tankmate.
  12. I ran an XP3 with my 90, wasn't sure if it was good enough so added an AQ500. Long story short I have the XP3 and AQ500 running a 130 REALLY well, no bioload problems. Just ask Murminator. Go for the XP3. ~Reza~
  13. I never knew that columbian sharks required full marine. Goes to show you what I know. I still think a common pleco would help. What size is the aquarium?
  14. Why are you adding to salt to an oscar tank Hideo? Bristtlenose plecos do a great job at cleaning algae but will be rather small to a fully grown oscar. What about a common pleco??
  15. I too always thought that the feedback given would prove invaluable to store managers. Members views were often open and honest and accompanied with ideas to improve the situation or a pat on the back to let a store know they were doing something the customers liked. I understand the mod's concern with members "bashing" stores with little to no evidence to back up their views, but one has to remember it's just the view of a single person and it gets pretty easy to spot someone on a vendetta apposed to another aquarist wanting to share their experiences with certain stores and pass on advice. Although a consistently poor review of a particular store will make me look more closely at their stock and products, the ultimate choice of where I decide to shop is mine, not another members. If the vendor review section was getting too much for the moderators to monitor I would be more than happy to lend my help. I feel that the website is missing a great part of it, an open discussion on the main stream suppliers of everything that the aquarist requires to continue their hobby. Just my two cents. Thought that I should add that I really enjoy the site, so much information/humour and GREAT deals. Two thumbs up.
  16. I found reading the views of others interesting and sometimes useful when I was heading out to buy some new fish.
  17. Adding supplements to the food he likes sounds like a good idea. Hopefully in time he will acquire a taste for the pellets.
  18. My electric blue has molted twice in 6 weeks. ???????
  19. Check out the form, pinky finger held high. :drunk:
  20. very interesting, thanks for the link

    Powerhead

I've found my powerhead a good solution to a similar problem. I also bought a couple of small bottom dwellers that like to swim in and out of the rocks and help bring the crud out into the open areas where it eventually gets sucked up. My bicher eel does a good job.
  22. Feeding my jar live food is the last thing that I want to do, home raised live food is takes a long time, lots of space and encourages any aggresion in the arowana. Clam meat is never refused by my aro, shrimp is also a good choice. Not sure about blodworms as I haven't fed any in a year. Anyway, ace99, it's been a while since you posted, how's the aro doing?
  23. I agree a canister doesn't help add oxygen to the water. I run an XP3 and an AC500 on my 135 freshwater with no problems. I also have an air pump running on a timer whilst the lights are on.
