  1. Getting them to eat, eagerly, is the hardest part.
  2. If its weird or uncommon it'll happen in one of my tanks.... guaranteed. If not for bad luck there wouldn't be any. Funny part is I ran this tank for 4 weeks ,while I waited for parts, without a dosing pump. Filter system works pretty darn good. I just wanted to be double sure so I added the dosing pump just in case any chloramines slipped by. If I wasn't so paranoid I'd still have a ray. If it wasn't for Erin, and her early detection, I would have lost the whole tank. That ray rocked and is, likely, irreplaceable. The color and activity level were outstanding. I'm so bummed out. He deserved a better fate.
  3. 230 gallons. 4 liters would treat it for over 8 months
  4. I think its more of a blue base color IMO. Wicked high shine and nice finnage as Boydo said. Congratulations and stellar fish!
  5. Its with seious remorse I have to announce the death of my male ray. He was awesome specimen but due to a malfunction with my dosing pump he was poisoned by Prime. I set up my dosing bottle about 4 ' above the pump and both check valves failed, dumping 4L of Prime into my sump. The ray and one clown loach died. Luckily my wife was able to save the arowana and the rest of the inhabitants before there were more serious losses.
  6. I've heard some negative comments on feeding superworms. Fish can be hard to convert to other foods after feeding a lot of them. Use them sparingly. I blend fish and shelled shrimp with NLS pellets for my XB (easier than stuffing them every time I feed and my wife doesn't have to do it while I'm gone to work). My super red will only eat Hikari and not enough to put on good growth. I've tried just about everything with that fish and he's a stubborn bugger. I thought if I could get him on any pellet diet it would be easy to convert to eat almost anything. So far that's not been the case. He'll mouth and spit fish, shrimp,NLS,krill and he was much bigger than the fish that letsgofishn bought at the same time. Now he's a runt in comparison. Good luck!
  7. He's gonna be awesome. He looks better than when I last seen him even with your lousy pics! JK buddy! How's the sev and syn?
  8. That's the same footprint I am thinking about. 30" is tougher to get in and clean but it does afford other benefits like greater water volume and enables you to add more fish or do lower volume water changes. It doesn't matter how big you go you'll always want a bigger tank down the road....maybe not after you move it in. Good luck!
  9. I don't know your financial situation but if Mitch is building your tank you have plenty of time to save. IMHO the best type of arowana to get if you are on a budget of less than $1000 is a High back red-tailed golden. It's basically an upgraded RTG. The shine, or gold color, in the scales just goes up higher than in a normal RTG. It doesn't cross the back like a crossback is supposed to but has very high shine. Some are even nicer than the much higher priced XB. You can get very good quality XB and super reds for under $2000. I paid $1800 for my XB and $2300 for my SR. I know Wayne (letsgofishin) paid less than $2000 for his SR and so far its growing much better than mine. I had the opportunity to buy either fish and I chose the larger of the 2. His is now much larger than mine . Even if you see the fish and choose the one you want you don't always end up with the best fish. SR's are the pickiest eaters. I ,personally, wouldn't buy a green because you'll just end up wishing you spent the extra $200 on an RTG. If you do want a green because $$ is an issue then check out http://www.dreamfish.com.sg/merlionemarl.htm. If you want a green or any of their other fish contact Jay at http://www.arovillage.ca/. BTW its best choose the fish you like based on the merits of the fish and not the farm it comes from.
  10. Still has time to develop. Fish is young and color gets stronger every day. I'm not sure if he'll be a full XB but I think there will be some 6th level crossing and the gold on the head is vibrant yellow gold. The video is also taken with Ketapang leaf treatment so the water is a bit tea stained and throws the color off a bit . By no means is he Japanese export quality but I think I got fair value for my dollar.
  11. 5th level gold on every scale. 6th level just getting little flecks here and there.
  12. He's starting to get more of a yellow gold color every day. This is the same fish I got from Arovillage in Sept. He was only 7" then and now he's 14-15"
  13. Use Prime to reduce toxicity. Lots of small water changes will help if this didn't happen after a water change. An air stone is a must. Hope it was just a small glitch not a major malfunction.
  14. Wow , I think I picked the wrong fish. He is doing extremely well. Mine is only 10" still and very skinny. He eats pellets though, so I can't complain too much. He looks like a really good eater Wayne. Congratulations on a great fish. He's doing very well.
  15. Synspilum is looking good Jonah. Nice and thick.
  16. I use playsand but it is a much coarser variety than the first time I bought it. The first time I used it, it was horrible. It was fine and it was death to impellers. The stuff I use now has larger grains and I haven't had a problem with it for the last 2 years. I have one tank with overflows and one with AC 110's and a canister.
  17. I think the camera adds 10 lbs. No wait, that's how much that fish probably weighs! Shine looks to be getting better and fins are healing nicely! Can't wait to see him again.
  18. What lighting do you use? Your videos are nice and bright and the colors are intense. I've watched your videos a few times and I really am jealous. You did a great job with the decor and species selection. Its a lot of fun to watch. Could use more sand is the only negative comment I can come up with. Other than that it is terrific. Look forward to seeing more!
  19. He's about 12" but very skinny. Fussy eater.I think his favorite food is geophagus. He chases him relentlessly.
  20. Definitely jealous! Nice collection of fish. RTG is a stunner - the fish I mean.
  21. Thanks guys , but hopefully the best is yet to come with both fish. I'll post some more videos in a couple of months.
