Wackinator replied to Wackinator's topic in Freshwater Photography
yeah thats what I thought too but the breeder who I got them from had been keeping them together without a problem and I have been keeping them for about 2 weeks and I havent even noticed a single nip so far, I have a tank running just in case but no problems so far. -
Thanks for all your help guys, I used Quickrete play sand, and CFL 30 watts of Light, and everything seems to be working out good. Pics have been posted here Thanks

20 Gallon Planted - What happened?
Wackinator replied to Wackinator's topic in Freshwater Photography
Inhabitants of the tank 6 Apple Snails 4 Bettas, (2 Crowntail females, 1 Crowntail male, and 1 Crowntail/Halfmoon female) 14 Platies 3 small Albino Bristle Nose Plecos A lone female guppy It was so hard to get good pictures of the fish as the bettas wouldnt stay still and the platies always stayed at the back, sorry. I didnt post pictures of the Albino BN as I dont have a camera right now and I just got the fish this morning. Thinking of moving the bettas to their own tank, and adding a pair of angelfish, 2-3 black mollies and some cories in this tank, what do you guys think? Thanks to Austin for the snails Thanks to Fairdeal (Harold) for the Albino BN Thanks to Patricia for the Bettas, I dont know if she has an AA account or not but just incase Guys this is my first real Planted Tank and I dont know much about them so please tell me what I did right, what I messed up on, what I should change, or anything of the sort. Thanks a lot -
I started a 20 gallon planted a little while ago and these pictures are probably a week or something old. Unfortunately it sort of sucks as it turns out I am not good at decorating but I still like it lol. I consider this to be my first planted tank as the last 2 didnt last long and ended so badly I'd rather not remember them. I apologize for the bad quality but I didnt really have a good camera to work with and ignore the white stain/buildup in the background as I forgot to clean the back of the tank when setting this up, will do it tomorrow though. A list of the plants in this tank from memory 2-3 types of Hygros, (Polysperma, Sunset, and an unknown I think) Anubias Nana Tiger Lotus a couple of Crypts Java Moss Pennywort Water Wisteria Unknown Plant Thanks to Kronosdelsol and Discus Dummy for the amazing Plants  Any advice/criticizes/comments, anything and everything is welcome. Thanks

Has anyone ever used a rubbermaid storage bin as a pond?
Wackinator replied to Wackinator's topic in Ponds (indoor-outdoor)
Thanks guys but I wasnt really looking to make a pond or anything just a thought that came to mind about how during the spring summer I could have a 50 gallon grow out tank outdoors but maybe in the future lol Thanks though -
I can look into a powerhead and I know diffusion bells arent the most affective way lol it was in the spur of the moment and the result of not a lot of planning for the CO2 but the link would be appreciated =] How much do powerheads cost? Thanks
-
I second the harlequin rasboras

sweet cuz I wanna get ottos for that tank, but I have no clue how they are gonna get in there, I have made like a DIY diffusion bell out the bottom half of a small water bottle. The bubbles stay there until they get dissolved into the water, lighting is not exactly the best, 30 watts of 6500K bulbs and the plants seem to be showing growth every other day if not daily so it must be doing something right. Thanks

If you think the hole might be leaking put some silicon around the hole. Thats what I do to make sure it doesn't leak around the tubing. A check valve is a little one way valve you put in the airline tubing. The co2 can flow through but the tank water can't flow back up the tubing, past the valve. You can buy them at pretty much any LFS, it should be around the airstones and tubing. yeah I will definetely look for a check valve the next time I go and since I dont have Silicone Ill try some of the sticky tac kinda thing i have laying around. Thank though And I had one more question my airstone is growing all fuzzy and some sorta fluffy layer is forming around, what is it? Ill try to post a picture of it by tonight but it did the same thing last time and I cleaned it off hoping it wouldnt show up again but it did.
-
Thanks guys, yeah I did have some issues making the hole in the lid so maybe Ill just make another lid cuz when I shake it it does bubble like crazy and another problem is I dont have a checkvalve, I didnt know where I would be able to find one as I dont even know what that is. Thanks though

We have a pair of them, and they are flimsy once filled past 1/2. I would not expect it to last seveal years. Dirt will add some support ifwell packed, but if you added a few braces to the outside the plastic would just deform around them. You could ask your landlord or PMGR, and I suspect as long as you fill it in and repair the grass you will be fine, but should they come buy and just find it there could be friction and or packing. You will also find low cost pond liners (think I saw one today) that mak everything easier as it i what it was designed for and does not look as goofy sitting in the ground. Thanks, and yeah from what Ive been reading thats definitely out, and I wasnt looking to start a pond or anything, just a grow out container for fries that would be like a pond, I'll be looking around for huge buckets or anything that works. Thanks guys -

Thanks Fleshgear and yeah I think that one might be closer to me cuz we are by deerfoot mall and beddington and I think my dad might be more likely to go there, is there a website or something that tells you where the locations are? -

I honestly dont know of any farm supply stores but yeah I will ask around, and I wasnt going to bury it which is another issue as we live on rent I dont know how the landlords might take it. I was wondering if I would be able to build a support brace or something for it to stop it from going flimsy. It would have been a lot cheaper than a getting a grow out tank. Thanks -
Hey I was wondering if anyone had ever used a rubbermaid storage bin as a pond? I was curious if I could use that as a livebearer grow out tank or even to keep a gold or 2 outside? I was interested in the 189L rubbermaid storage which I believe is 50 gallons? Here is a link for its picture. http://www.walmart.ca/Canada-FeaturedPage.jsp?selection=listingDetails&assetId=48864&imageId=67314&departmentId=218&categoryId=1471&tabId=0 Any suggestions? Will it not be able to handle the pressure and bend or something? Could I build a support thing around it with a couple pieces of wood and board? Thanks guys

Ill try once more tomorrow but I think its the yeast, it was probably dead or something. Is there a way you can test it? It bubbles but only after I shake it. Thanks
-
yeah I think I messed this up somehow because the only time Ive noticed it bubbling is when I pick up the bottle and give it a good shake myself. Oh well Ill try again in a couple of days and hope for a better result next time. I might look into a bubble counter as its something a lot of people recommend apparently. Thanks again

Is there a fish that will eat decomposing plant material?
Wackinator replied to Wackinator's topic in The planted tank
I didnt know bristle nose plecos ate decomposing plant material but it is one of the fish I will get later on. Thanks All I know is they're on the piece of lettuce and it's disappearing. I was reading more about that online and turns out other people have also noticed them doing the same lol.
