  1. I never did follow up. Unfortunately, the small fellow died on the 7th. Never did find out what happened. Take care!
  2. So far there hasn't been any change. I put some mashed peas and a small bit of zucchini in the tank yesterday morning, but he doesn't seem to be eating. I even took him out of the tank and tried to massage his belly a bit today... Very gently of course. He didn't do much to try and get away. At this point I don't know what to do. He seems to be getting pretty worn out and I can't imaging him fighting this much longer.
  3. Looks like my male silver molly has a case of swim bladder. It could be something else, but I don't know what. Any ideas? If he tries, he can usually get himself swimming normally, but as soon as he relaxes, his tail goes right and and he ends up facing the bottom of the tank. I know he's not happy in this condition, but looks normal otherwise. I've got him in a small "hospital" tank and haven't fed him in about 36 hours. Also added some Melafix and Pimafix as well to his water as well. Is there anything else it could be? Is there something specific that I should be doing? He was in my 33 gallon tank with about a dozen other fish, including another molly, and those fish are fine. For food they were getting flakes, dried bloodworms, algae pellets and some zuccini once daily in the morning. Last water readings in the 33 was 0 ammonia, 0 nitrIte and 10 nitrAte.
  4. I've been watching my fish lately and I'm starting to wonder if all of my critters are getting enough to eat. When I put flakes/pellets/bloodworms/pea in the tank most of the fish go nuts trying to get their share. I'm sure that those fish get enough to eat. Nobody seems to like the lettuce though. Unfortunately I never see some of these guys, like my schwartz cory, algae eater and snails, actually eat anything. I don't see algae in my tank, so I'm not sure what they'd be eating. The cory is usually zipping up and down the glass, and sometime sifting through the sand, but he just passes over any pellets, etc. that are there. The algae eater is usually sucking on the tank glass, or driftwood, or other stuff, but there isn't anything that I could see that he'd be eating. As for the snails, I just never see them anymore. I guess that there isn't much I can do... I am going to try some zuccini tomorrow. Other than that I guess it's just wait and see. Anyone have any suggestions as to what to do here? 5. You definately don't want that bubble in there. It could burst and add enough toxins to the tank to kill your fish. I'd be getting at it with the substrate vacuum.
  6. I'd sure like to know how this was done!
  7. LOL! I think I'll try something like this for a filter, but use 3/4" vinyl tubing so I can bend it to fit the shape of the bowl. As for a heater, I have a heating pad that does a good job when I'm using my hospital "tank"... A bit big for the bowl I'm thinking of though. I was hoping for a small pad that I could sit the bowl on, kinda like a coffee cup heater.
  8. Thanks... I did try to find some pinned topic but came up empty. I didn't want to post just another "is it ich?" message. Basically looking for a good temperature to keep the tank at if I suspect that a fish has ich. One of my swords has a couple tiny white spots and if this is ich I want to stop it before is spreads.
  9. Searches have to contain at least four characters, so how do I search for "ich" ???
  10. Finally, I have a camera that can take some decent photos. Here are out 10 gallon and 33 gallon tanks. 10 gallon (Yes, it's overstocked): - Two cory cats (Moving to the 33?) - One betta - Five guppies - Five neon tetras - Malaysian trumped snails - Smooth gravel substrate - Whisper 15 HOB filter + under gravel filter - 50 watt heater 33 gallon: - Two male silver mollies - One red glass rosy barb - Two female and one male red albino swords - Malaysian trumpet snails - Play sand substrate - Aquaclear 70 HOB filter - 150 watt heater
  11. I have a few small bowls here that would be good for holding a betta. My only problem is that they are round. There is no front or back, so trying to hang a filter or heater is impossible. Does anyone know of a heater/filter that one could use is such a bowl?
  12. Actually, that metal tab is supposed to be loose. It makes up the difference between hooking the end of the taop on something and pulling the tape, & pushing the end of the tape against something. It compensates for the thickness of the metal tab.
  13. Thanks, but I've already replaced the crappy Burnco stuff with Target. The difference was unbelievable. Cleaned up much quicker and the tank was clear in no time!!! My 10 gallon looks like it's cycle is about complete and I've got extra filter material in the filter to move into the 33 gallon now. :smokey:
  14. *sigh* I finally got my 33 gallon tank cleaned up, backgrounds mounted and added sand for a substrate. The water is SUPER cloudy! YUCK! I DID rinse the sand well... The water was much cleaner after rinsing, but still cloudy. Scanning the forums here I find out that the Burnco sand from Rona really sucks for a substrate and I should get Target sand from Home Depot instead. At this point should I just empty the tank and start over with some Target sand? Is the silt bad for my HOB filter (Aquaclear 70)?
  15. ARGH! I just finished making a mudpile in my 33 gallon tank. Spent a couple hours trying to wash my playsand before going into the tank but it didn't do much good. There is sooooo much silt in there. Why couldn't I have seen this posting first?
