  1. pretty much asked a similar question in: http://albertaaquatica.com/index.php?showtopic=19711 Anyways I now too use http://photobucket.com/ It takes all your pictures Never complained about space yet. And does resizing for you. Plus it gives you the exact code to copy and paste to the edit box.

    SALT

With my recent move from ph downed water and ro mixtures to tap water I've now had two illnesses in the span of about 30 days. Also I should mention my particular brand of ph down being mildly toxic on some levels may have kept me disease free. I've also had very little expirience treating illnesses as I have never had them before. I recently had a 10g with about 20 infant fish who got ich. I treated with 1 tablespoon salt to 4-5g.(planted 10g) Also with a half dose of jungle ich. I wonder if the initial full dose I gave them may have helped them die faster. I have two fish left out of the 20 I had. I'm terrified of something like this happening to my 90g. I should also mention I keep clown loaches in my 90 gallon and they've never had ich.
  3. I can only say negative things about them. Their site claims to ship from Winnipeg.. then they ship from the usa. My order was held up at customs for a few days. Some plants never arrived. Some arrived dead. I wouldn't have ordered if I knew plants were not coming from Winnipeg.

    SALT

Just wondering if anyone uses it? Concentrations? Whats ok? Whats not? And would it be effective in those concentrations?
  5. I used to get mine filled at canadian tire, don't know if yours is the same
  6. Nice that someone finally brought this up! However nothing in the rules for buy/sell say anything about who you can or cannot sell to. I read them again just to make sure. In the past I chose those with senior forum status (100+ posts) over others with say 5 posts and joined today. Or simply availability.
  7. There is no such thing as ph shock, it's a myth. Some lakes in nature have been recorded to move 2 ph in a day. The bigger concern is osmotic shock.

It's the same here... http://www.bigalsonline.com/BigAlsCA/ctl36...5canisterfilter Must be an fx5 sale from the manufacturer.
  9. BUMP Not working again.. Minefield(Firefox) vista 64bit.
  10. Eventually it'll shoot up a nice flower.
  11. For the last few years I havn't seen any illnesses in my tanks, but given my odd chemistry and the possibility of my key chemical potentially being toxic to aquatic life.. well.. maybe just parasites. Since switching to regular tap water I had the parents wiped out by a fungus. And now My fry tank where I was raising their young(and 2 other species) 10 deaths today from a crazy ich outbreak. It appears I've completely lost this unique species except one which is in another tank and 2 fry I doubt will live much longer. I treated my planted 10g tank with two table spoons of salt and jungle ick guard. Which may have sped up some deaths. Very upsetting for me, spencer jacks doesn't even carry these.
  12. Just an interesting link I found and since it's recent, I figured I'd share. http://notexactlyrocketscience.wordpress.c...blind-cavefish/
  13. I'm using the stingray at bigals for my 90 gallon tank. It's amazing that this particle board is able to hold the weight. It does so without issues and hasn't warped with water spilled on it. I believe the stingray to be the cheapest model they sell for the 90 gallon.
  14. I believe a lot of people just had an outbreak of this and lost their whole tank. I had three fish catch it and die, which was unfortunate as they were breeding and wildcaught. I found this website http://animal-world.com/encyclo/fresh/info...on/Diseases.htm Milky cloudiness on skin Costia, Chilodonella Coppersafe, Quick-Cure, Acriflavine I didn't try any of those. If it is in fact the same problem I had and it sounds like it, I tried api's melafix, primafix then api's eurithromycin. In this order and not at the same time. They just got worse with each medication. I never tried any of the ones listed above and would be hesitant to use coppersafe in anything.

  16. Ya I noticed that they look pretty thin. I think i might look into getting some torpedo barbs. Anyone know if they are easy to find in Edmonton? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_line_torpedo_barb I've seen them at bigals in the display tanks. always thought they were some sort of flying fox.
  17. My saes are fat and lazy, they nibble on the algae, but for the tank size just don't keep up. or it's possible I identified them wrong. The stripe is correct in reference to sites on the net. And it was marimo balls.
  18. Something ate my mossballs. Coulda been saes.
  19. Yes, you must have thrown them in pretty hard. Snails have blood, nervous system, heart.. etc..
  20. Sorry for the blurry photo but I would rather show My fish than something I think could be it on the internet. This is most likely whatever common variety big als sells. I acquired it one day when my roommate at the time decided he didn't want fish and just threw them in my tank.... ph from 7.6 to 6.0 instantly but they survived. Anyways today I have fry in my tank and I have only ever had one of these. So it either bred with itself or some other species. I have recently acquired some other unknown wild caught tetras from Uruguay that look similar to a black skirt tetra.
  21. I fixed it, didn't realize the option was in the topic options, I kept looking in my controls. Was stuck on display mode outline.
  22. Something weird changed with my settings in the last day and I can't figure out how to turn it back. Previously when I opened a topic, it showed all posts in the topic, now it shows a list of things posted in the topic, but only one post at a time? How do I fix this? It happened after opening a google search that turned up albertaaquatica.

I'm looking for a filter for my 90 gallon to replace 2 marineland emperor filters. I have to clean them way too often. It's a planted tank with sand substrate. This video looks pretty good Anyone have any input, maybe something else is better?
  24. I had a similar problem. After I stopped adding chemicals it went away on it's own. It's probably just re-establishing bacteria.
  25. If in fact it is algae and there is nothing else on the driftwood you care about drop it in a bucket for a few days, treat with hydrogen peroxide every morning at 1ml/L. Make sure it has some light. At the end your only byproduct will be some extra oxygen in the water. The light will break down the hydrogen peroxide and when it does this it kills your algae. You could also consider getting a sae.
