  1. Any snails that come with sunglasses, beach umbrella and lounge chairs...oopsy bad me....
  2. When we judge the planted tanks in the CAS home competition, there's a few things we look for(that I can remember...); are the filter tubes and heaters hidden, is there a focal point, is there different layers to the tank(including substrate and plants), how healthy are the plants, how balanced and clean is the tank, does the livestock inhabit different levels of the tank and is it a good mix? Hope this helps...
  3. Agreed about the sunblasters but keep it simple. Get a basic fert or come on out to a CAS meeting. Some of the planty guys have an awesome DIY fert mix. Also, you might have some issues with the vals and the excel..
  4. Welcome!! If you're looking for livestock or equipment, please come out to the CAS big spring auction March 8th.. It's a good time and got me "hooked"...
  5. The mr. fishclubgirl has them (and won't give them to me.....) and I have golden teddies and porthole livebearers as my "rare but prolific" wild type livebearers...
  6. Just a heads up, I am taking requests for lots. If you want extra, let me know when you ask as I will be giving them out to those who register early!!
  7. First off, Angels Plus has some great fish.. Second most domestic angels are not "good" parents and you're better to artificially hatch them. Take the slate to another warm(80 degrees) clean tank and add some antifungal like maroxy. You should have wigglers and a week after the eggs are laid, start feeding brine shrimp. Good luck as you've got some nice looking fish there!!
  8. Ok, you won this one but.... I have more fish than you....so I have more chances to win the jar show this year...
  9. Why don't you try the Victoria Aquarium Society? President's contact email is on the CAOAC website.
  10. 7:30 pm and I guess the presentation is on plant reproduction.. I think Bearbarry changes it on me to mess me up(which isn't hard...) Hopefully he'll touch on leds too so I don't look like a complete idiot...
  11. Sounds delish!! One species per container but glass or acrylic please. I hit the dollar store last night so I should have 3 or 4 entries..
  12. Tuesday's Calgary Aquarium society meeting jar show is plants. Should be some cool plants and some great ones in the mini auction!! Hope to see you there..
  13. Come join us Tuesday for a great presentation on Leds lights by Calgary's own planted tank expert, Bearbarry.. a man never at a loss for words!!Our jar show will be plants as well. We also will have our mini auction(might be some mighty fine guppies there...) , raffle, door prize, social time and more. Everyone's welcome!! Hope to see you there...
  14. Polishing shoes as well She's little short to be doing water changes so the shoes it is...I'm still trying to get Michael to give me Jade too...
  15. Do you want some guppies?? I've got too many nices ones and I'll take your cutey pie of a daughter as a trade...
  16. Plant growing can be as simple or technical as you want it to be. That is your choice to make. Nothing wrong with using a basic fertiliser and waiting for your tank to settle in before researching CO2.Also any liquid carbon could harm your java moss. As you're doing well with the frogbit, that will take away some of your light in the tank too. It's a pet peeve of mine when people are starting tanks and every comment means a visit to the pet store and more money!! Growing plants is a learning process so just enjoy your tank and develop your aquatic horticulture skills..
  17. A little more information would be helpful. What are the lights, what kind of substrate and are you using any ferts? Some of the plants you have are not easy plants to grow so don't feel badly if they're not doing well. As you're just starting out, there's some basic plant needs that help you succeed without spending more money! Also research your plants and get some easy plants ie crypts, anubias, vals etc. Then when you get them going, look at at your options ie CO2. Hate seeing newbies spending lots of money and not just enjoying their planted tanks!!
  18. Right now, we only do shows every second year as yes, they are a lot of work. We always can use more volunteers though and your fish do spawn faster if you help out!! Look at how many mollies I have, for instance...
  19. Just some comments here; what kind of plants do you want to grow and do you have the lights for it? There's some plants that can be grown in gravel(root tabs will help though) or above gravel. There's no sense changing your substrate if you don't need to or don't have the lights for growing the plants. Changing the substrate can be a pain!!
  20. For those of you from out of town or other first timers, Montgomery Community hall is at the corner of Home Road an 16 Ave NW. Everyone is welcome even certain members of ACE!!
  21. c.loxonous...got some a couple of years ago at Pisces and they've done well. Super cool markings!!
  22. Actually they are called fighting fish for a reason....even the ladies like to spar a bit.. doubt it was the filter. Also red bettas are notorious for being aggressive..
