  1. I see you have found your solution, but just out of interest.. would frag glue work?
  2. I love these kinds of threads Definitly hide it.. if it's submersable, hide it in the back or if you plan to have tall full plants on that side, they would hide the heater where it is.
  3. Just to see that is wicked! AND snap the pic taboot... very nice
  4. I always believe that if a fish in your tank is small enough to fit in another's mouth, chances are it'll get eaten! I keep reading not to put bettas with neons... because the neons nip the bettas pretty fins? nope... my betta ate all my neons! I agree with Qattarra... better to give him his own pals at his level in the tank. See where they like to be the most then look for fish to fill the other levels. Rainbows, Gouramis, Barbs are good... or, as mentioned, Cichlids are excellent tank mates... plecos and other cats too. Let us know what you decide!
  5. Not sure if it's the same effect (or lack there of) but I use Aquarium Salt in my communities with no effect at all on my trumpets and /or rams horns. my cories have never shown any different behaviour after adding salt and neither have my bettas. only bad effect I have ever had after adding, were my amanos turning white. on a side note: I find that very funny that your guppy picked on your betta. when I first introduced bettas into my 55g community which had guppies, I couldn't understand why the guppies were loosing their fancy tails... till oneday I saw a betta swimming around the tank with a guppy's tail in it's mouth, trailing the guppy behind it!
  6. I did some poking around and found a few statements here and there that scales falling off, bent/kinked spines and other symptoms similar to what you described are classed as caused by mechanical injury or external damage. I also found "Any swimming that seems erratic (sudden changes in direction, darting around, bumping into objects, etc.) or any lack of movement can be an indication of illness." I remember reading once about internal parasites that eventually burrow into the head causing strange erratic behaviour... But I think Neil might be onto something there too! Also, someone please correct me if I am wrong.. don't high temperatures promote these kinds of illnesses? How are the other fish doing?
  7. oh the poor things do you think it is possible they were flashing? I've never actually heard of a fish flashing so hard to cause neuro damage, but maybe?
  8. IMHO and not meaning to over concur, NLS is the way to go... not too shabby advise and info too!! But seriously Neil, I really wish you guys would sell online!! I only have one store I can get to here and I wouldn't go there if you paid me! Besides, I am sure some remote members here would agree???
  9. I've had this twice and in my experience: 1st time was my first tank and I was very "green" myself, so I listened to everything and anything I was told.. I was advised to do 50% WC everyday to "thin" the water and (as mentioned above) kill the nutrients.. problem was, ended up killing enough nutrients to kill all the fish!! 2nd time, was more relaxed, knew what NOT to do, read up a bit and went with a clumping solution. Thickens and clumps the bloom enough to be filtered. This worked like a charm!! 55g cleared in 2 days. Only thing, was I had to change filter inserts 3 times in those 2 days. Afterwards found out better to substitute inserts with open cell sponges that can be rinsed out and re-used while treating... next time Let us know how you decided to go! Good Luck!
  10. that's great! and so good that they are eating! are you going to try your hand at breeding?
  11. Very nice rays!! Lovely catch.. How long have you had them? (p.s. don't know about others, but only 2 images worked for me)
  12. Thaks for the info!!! No CO2, but I know I am definitly overstocked... but I am most diligent about maintenance. I think I will try taking the onion out and wiping down the leaves. If that doesn't work, I'll have to toss it... Pity, I've had that onion for a while!
  13. Thanks for the wealth! I spotted only the 2 in that pic that day.. then since then I couldn't find any until this evening when I found a big one! Well, that's good news that they are not harmful to my fish and I will grab some excel next LFS visit. Thanks again!
  14. Thank you for the compliments!!! He's my Sparkle Boy... Very cute and full of personality Well, that is until I see his close up!!! Little Tiger haha
  15. oh, I WISH I remembered where I read it... but I read an article about keeping shrimp (amano, I think) with the eggs. Apparently they keep the eggs clean and fungus free... maybe worth looking up. Since they are so hard to spawn, every little bit helps, no? Best of Luck
  16. What a beautiful couple!! considering your location and the chances of finding ole' Captain a perfect mate (hopefully!!), it looks like a match made in heaven and just meant to be!!
  17. Great video Roy! I am very much in love with your Pearl White!!
  18. 10g planted Ram tank. Once a week 50% water change and Pfertz dosing. I started a new thread for this one as I have no idea if it is algae or not. I spotted it this evening and there doesn't seem to be more than just the two (at least none that I can see) one on the plant and one on the glass. Does anyone know what this is? To me it looks like something you would find in a saltwater tank! Much Thanks!!
  19. Just sharing my favourite Demasoni shot (please excuse the lense reflection)
  20. 20g Planted community with 2 regular daylight compact fluorescents. Once a week 50% water change and Pfertz dosing. A week ago, my tank has started spouting these unsightly whiskers! At first I thought it was BBA, but this isn't fuzzy/furry, more like roots... but not roots that should be sprouting from and onion plant! These are pics I took last week when it started: These are from this evening: No new growth on the driftwood... and seems to be only growing on these two plants. Can anyone tell me what it is? and how to get rid of it? Much thanks!
  21. I agree.. time for a name change! congrats too and keep us posted!
