  1. If we (people) want to leave the country for Asia, we have to fly to a port...ie. Vancouver...so must fish upon entry to Canada? That's the only explanation I can offer. When I flew to Thailand I had to go to Vancouver first.
  2. Wow...those are gorgeous fish! You're soooo lucky!
  3. I did this ONE time...and never again. I drove all the way to Vancouver Airport, 12 hrs over night to meet the flight. Picked up my fish...and they were so close to dying already that I had to stop at a LFS and re-bag them just for the drive back to Calgary. It was a VERY grueling drive. Clearing customs wasn't so much an issue but the drive there and back sucked big time!
  4. They were at both the Edmonton and Calgary Aucitons...I know 'cause I wanted them, but I wasn't willing to pay those prices! They were really expensive! They also had some at Big Al's but they were around $20 each.
  5. I saw a dozen or so cups of Christmass Moss at Big Al's last night...thought i'd share that info as it looked nice and green. They're $4.99 each cup...probably will be flying off the shelves i'd imagine. They're sharing space with the Bettas.
  6. Cool! Tis the season!! LOL Have any pics of the parents?
  7. Just curious...what were the Pails of NLS selling for at Gold's & Big Al's (Online?) ? I've never considered buying in bulk before.
  8. I got my eggs in the mail on the 14th and hatched them yesterday...I have 6 fry so far...they hatched within hours of being put in the water which was cool...I have sifted through the remaining eggs and still see some that are eyed up so i'll continue to airate the water for a while longer. Anyone know if the fry still need to keep an airstone in the water for the fry or is moss and feeding them enough? Any suggestions on how often to change out some water? They're in a tiny bucket at the moment, which is easy for me to see them and keep track of them so there is probably only half a litre in there right now.
  9. Wow...beautiful colors! Maybe these will be good dads for ya! Where'd you pick these guys up from?
  10. I love seeing wild animals in the wild! It's nice to see nature out there! My hubby saw a couple owlets last year outside of Calgary but when we went by a few weeks later we discovered their bodies were mulched up by a mower...very sad. They're such beautiful birds!
  11. Very cool! Amazing pics! Just curious how you set up the camera underwater? Is it water proof or do you have a case for it? Remote shots?? They're so neat!
  12. :welcome: And if you have pics that would be awesome too!! We like pics...hahaha
  13. Alas...i've lost all but a few of the fry...they just all of a sudden died night before last. Kinda sucks but next time I think i'll try a sponge filter? The bottom of the tank was getting awfully dirty and algae was taking over the sides. Maybe it was just natures way of balance...hahaha...oh well. There's always another day and another horny CT male Betta lol.
  14. Question for ya Werner &/or Firestorm... I have a small piece of driftwood with Riccia on it that has developed a crazy growth of this thread algae...If I were to put the whole thing in a bucket and try this squirting of HP on it and then rinced it with old aquarium water at water change time...would it be ok? Melt the riccia or anything? remnants of the HP on the plant that would harm my bettas?
  15. hahahaha...that frog is indeed very lucky!
  16. WOW!! What a wonderful difference! Obviously he`s being fed very well!
  17. Love those EBJD! I keep seeing some at the LFS and want them so badly, but nowhere to put 'em...glad you posted a pic of some!
  18. Ouch! Sorry to hear about your losses...that's a lot of fish. Maybe add more aeration and some aquarium salt? I've only encountered a problem like this when first setting up a tank...never 4 yrs later. I'm sure someone else will have some better advice? Best of luck.
  19. :welcome:! Must be a very colorful tank! I think as long as you keep 'like-sized' fish in with the eye-biter you'll be fine.
  20. Very Cool to see! Great idea to save $$$ too! Very Nice fish indeed!
  21. Thanks blackbelt609! This is my 2nd attempt at spawning...the first time the male ate all the eggs. I was kinda antsy about the male possibly eating the babies so dad went back to his bowl on day 3.
  22. The fry are 6 days old now...and I managed a pic. These are just a few of the fry...there are at least 30-35 in the tank...maybe more 'cause they're really good at hiding!
  23. Hahaha...I love Uromatix's...so full of character! Nice Close up of 'em!!
