Thanks jayba, separating the males and females is one thing I haven't tried, the thought crossed my mind but i dismissed it because with victorians I have never had to in the past. But i will certainly give it a go. I'll also text you for your secret recipe.

I have had ruby greens now for about four years now and they have always proven to be a very prolific species for me. I have raised hundreds of them. But my current breeding group, consisting of two males and four females have not spawned in over 8 months. I have tried various things, like moving them to entirely new tanks, longer ones, deepers ones, change temperature, varied diet etc. Right now they are in species only tank, except for a few Bristol nose plecos, currently a 50 gallon with a fluval 404 and a sponge filter on the other end. Bare bottom tank with rocks and tunnels and a few tall fake plants. The females are all mature, at least 2-3 years of age. I am wondering if they are too old? I have never seen them holding at all in the past 8 months or so. The dominant male is gorgeous and showing great color, he is active and seems to be attempting courtship. I feed NLS and spirulina flakes. Temp of water is usually about 78 with cold water changes in hopes of inducing spawning. I have also tried warmer temperatures of about 84 with cold water changes. Can anyone offer any insight into why they are not breeding and how I can change this?

Hey, I just reread your story, guess I never read the whole story the first time, I didn't realize you lost some of your most expensive fish. I am ever so sorry. I know this happened over a year ago so emotions have settled. It must have been around the same time as your "accident" that we had a miss hap of our own. I was graciously watching some young kids in my house for one of our volunteers at the zoo. When I when to check on the kids in the living room, and discovered they were playing hide and seek under my 160 gallon bow front. I quickly ushered them out and told them they couldn't go under the tank as it could be dangerous. And never thought anything more of it. Had it been me who turned the tank lights on the bow front off that night I might have noticed the pumps not working but it was my husband who shut the tank lights off for the night. In the morning my husband woke me up with frantic news that all twelve of our 5-10 inch blue Zaire fronts had parished. The kids had turned off the power bar under the tank that powdered both eheims and the air pump. We had just bought those fronts about five months previous for $1200. I couldn't even talk about it for months afterwards.

My husband, who is color blind, thinks it could possibly be a real fish. But I say, if It looks too good to be true it probably is. Besides, I am very proficient at Photoshop, and I know what can be done with it.

So I'm the first to admit that I know nothing about saltwater tanks. But I was just reading articles on the uses and functions of proteins skimmers. It seems to me a protein skimmer might be very useful in a freshwater aquarium. Is this something that can be done? not recommended. Totally unnecessary? Actually beneficial? Any thoughts?

Can anyone identify this fish. Because if this is a real fish I got to get me one! Or ten!

Yup, I have witnessed a separated hap. Ruby green and an zebra do the same. So I guess it happens.

Pets and kids do tend to complicate our breeding efforts. Jayba posted once about the bath bomb incident, I had a toddler pull toxic waste from said diaper and deposit it in a breeding tank. Not good. Sorry about the cat incident, I totally empathize with you.

I was able to get some good photos of my alpha male copadichromis geertsi gome. There is a subdominant male in the tank too which I am sure is helping this guy color up. He has staked out a pot, laid a capet of sand strategically inside and out and I see each female is taking turns checking out his pot. I hope there will be eggs soon!

Despite my husband and I having tiffs over what we should or should not be bidding we both came home happy with: Four chocolate plecos Two 3 beacon plecos Two lots of tequila goodieds Blue swords Red rainbows of some Latin name Black chin live bearers And some yellow guppies Would have liked some plants but they all were selling very high. Thanks to all who put up with my husband' antics. I don't let him out much. Now you you all know why

I picked up some electric Blue Rams. They are doing great in their new home. I bought WAAAAY too much stuff, but I am thrilled with what we brought home. So thrilled with my pair of Blue galaris killfish. Paid lots for them, but the breeder deserved every penny (oh, nickle...pennies are gone now) and one can't find them anywhere! If the Breeder could contact me and offer me some tips on spawning I would sure be appreciative. :smokey:

Siphon the fry out with a small hose and raise the fry in a ten or twenty gallon tank with a bubble filter

Actually there was a good selection of cichlid juvies. I came home with three bags of cichlid juvies, one bag of "gold cichlids", a bag of young Severnums, and a bag of Tangs. But there was oodles of young angelfish (also cichlids) and quite a few kribs, rams, tropheous and apistogrammas (also cichlids).

My husband and I had a great time! What a wonderful day. It started on time and those auctioneers whipped those lots through in no time. And there were LOTS of LOTS. Ha ha ha. Well done ACE members and organizers! You did a great job! It is always nice to see familiar faces and make new aquaintences and friends. I am already excited for the spring auction.

HI all, hope all you aqua plant people can help me. I bought this plant at an auction over a year ago and I have no idea what it is. I am the first to admit I know as much about aquarium plants as Bob Barker knows about operating a zoo. So any suggestions would be helpful. The plant is really short, only about 3 inches tall. The fish in the photo are only about one inch (just to give you a size reference). The plant must be propagating through roots under the gravel as it is indeed spreading. It is growing under common shop lights (floresent bulbs). It grows slowly but it seems to be doing well dispite the poor lighting conditions.

I never thought I would see a snakehead that was beautiful...yet RDfishguy, yours are gorgeous. Post some more pics please.

Since zebra danios are egg scatterers, their strange cave behavior can likely not be attributed to having spawned. I can't explain their strange change in behavior but I do know it is not consistant with their spawning bahavior. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
