  1. Finding fry is always fun! Is it in a hole in the rock hiding or is that dark shape the fry?
  2. was thinking dollar store as well but someplace like Rona or Home depot might carry something like that for appliances too.
  3. Welcome to the site! Always good when parents can spend more time with their kids. Any pics of the tanks?
  4. Some nice looking tanks! How come more of these arent posted here in the forums people!
  5. Mine is the Fluval planted LED which is why I was asking.
  6. Maybe you can ask him why my 4 ft planted Hagen LED heats up so much warmer than other LED fixtures of the same size. Its quite a noticeable difference to the touch. :eh:
  7. Hey and welcome to the forum! Pics are always in demand!
  8. Probably just leave them... The parents should guard the eggs and eventually the fry if they do hatch. How big is the tank that they are in and what other inhabitants are in it?
  9. Cool.... in both senses of the word... lol
  10. Welcome to the site! Looks like you are off to a great start!
  11. I believe that is an American site so be prepared for any brokerage fees or duty etc that might be incurred for it coming across the border. Cant tell what city you are in but you can try The Recharge Center or Sprouse Fire and Safety in Calgary to see what they have in rebuilt tanks. Recharge center you can get a tank and just swap it with a full one when you need a fill and I think Oxypro also offers the same service. You can also try online with J&L Aquatics or Pets And Ponds which are both Canadian sites.
  12. Me too! Welcome to the site!

  17. Well that was just what was in the ad... they could have other stuff on sale... give them a call and ask?
  18. I have 3x 404/405 (2 bought used) and 2x 205s for about 7/8 yrs and I have found that the fluval canisters have a couple of flaws one of which is on the aquastop levers. they tend to leak after some time from the area around the sides/ends where its circular. It can vary from a drip or 2 to a steady trickle. When this leaks it goes down and into the motor housing and eventually comes out by the area around the lock levers on the side of the canister. If only you could open it up and put some silicon grease down on the seals inside the aquastop I am sure it wouldnt be a problem. I have also had issues after putting the motor housing onto the bottom of the canister and having leaking coming from there. Usually end up wiping down the rubber o ring and the upper edge of the canister bottom that it seals against making sure that both are clean and dry and then reapplying the silicon grease. This "usually" fixes the leak. Other flaws are regarding the tabs on the impellor cover. They crack/break too easily DURING operation for whatever reason (moreso on the 400 series). Sometimes the broken tab results in noisy impellor or a noticeable drop in flow rate happens because its not holding the impellor shaft as strongly or its allowing the water to bypass back into the filter. I have had to replace these covers too many times a year and keep a couple on hand in case but at about 12 bucks a pop its getting expensive. I have really liked these filters but due to the flaws have started to upgrade some of them to Eheims and keeping the Fluvals as backups.
  19. Peltier cooling would be interesting but where are you going to hide the heatsinks?
  20. just cleaned my fluval 400 series tubes for the first time in 7 yrs... surprisingly there wasnt much accumulation of anything inside even though it is ribbed hosing. This also happens to be one of the canisters on the tank that I only clean every 6 months or so. I have found that the brown snot that gets spit out is actually loose material within the canister filter that is left after you have cleaned/rinsed out sponges. Its probably junk that is stuck in the bio media. If you plug in the canister with everything closed and then slowly increase flow you shouldnt get as much of the junk spitting out.
  21. yeah you have to be sure to trim back moss once in a while or the lower portions die off and let go. I am bad for that as well.
  22. Think I saw in their email ad that there are a couple tanks for sale for Fathers day til about the 15th or so. Edit: Sale ends June 13th 46 Gallon Marineland bowfront with stand for 299.99 54 Gallon Aqueon Corner kit with stand for 599.99
