  1. Welcome to the site Jill!
  2. Welcome to AA! I started out with a betta and then got panda corys in a planted tank as well... it just got outta hand after that!
  3. Welcome to the site.. .lots of great info and people here.
  4. Thanks for the compliments on my setup and glad that I gave ya a bit of inspiration. The light definitely helps grow plants along the perimeter of the tank. I have hairgrass growing out there and used to have HC growing tall instead of low in one corner until my CO2 ran empty on me. My light strips were probably no where near as much light as what you are putting out though which is why the HC never really stayed as low as I would have liked. The DHG is still looking ok. The saltwater tank is another story and I never did get around to putting corals into it so dont know how they would have done under the light strips.
  5. Thanks for the info everyone! Eugene I believe they are around 6000K - 7000K depending on the bulb. The wattages correspond to the length of the tubes and I am looking for the 54W/48inch tubes.
  6. you should be able to get the HC going... I had a corner of mine covered in HC for a while until my CO2 tank ran empty without me noticing. That was when the algae kicked in.
  7. Just wondering if anyone knows of shops in town that might carry these? I want to see how much of a difference they have over the cheap ones I have been using. I saw them on Angelfins but am a little apprehensive about shipping glass tubes across Canada for some reason... lol
  8. +1 to never seeing those ON the fish before. Has it cleared up and any signs of stress or illness from the bettas?
  9. very nice! those LEDs must be hanging pretty close to the water surface since you cant see them in your pics. Kinda makes me wanna do another DIY... lol

    Hello

Welcome to AA... there are some really knowledgeable people on here with regards to Rainbows. +1 for seeing some pics!
  11. Bummer about your plecs. from what I remember, you said you were technologically challenged so I am guessing getting pics of the new cuteness would be out of the question?
  12. Welcome to AA! I wish I could get a 225 gallon tank to plant! PICS PICS PICS!!!
  13. Welcome to AA! Jumping right into it is the best way to get into the hobby... just be sure you read up on the nitrogen cycle and cycling your tank so you have healthy happy fishies! +1 to what Wingin 'it said regarding the bamboo
  14. Very nice looking Edge your U light is similar to what I had done on mine but with a little cleaner implementation. How much was the build in total?
  15. Welcome to the forum. As mentioned there are quite a few people on here that culture live foods. I used to have micro worms and vinegar eels but ended up neglecting them and lost both. lol
  16. Sorry to hear about the losses... things like this make me glad that I dont use heaters on my tanks.
  17. +1... just do a water change... the plants will survive with no issues. your water may smell for a week or so depending on how long the dead fish were stewing. maybe a second water change mid week or something to clear that up.
  18. I am not a member but do they look like this one? LOL
  19. Bummer... hope you get the chance to return to the hobby in the future.
  20. Welcome to AA! and I would say small tank because I dont like looking through curved glass. LOL
