  1. is the impellar shaft still there? I had a similar problem trying to run the impellar without it.
  2. So I picked up some fish from Fairdeal last night and I have to say, the pinoy angels are nuts! So after letting the fish settle overnight, making sure everyone was eating ok, I decided to start snapping pictures. Most of the didn't turn out, maybe I was in too much of a rush. Here are some pics that turned out somewhat ok of the black pinoy angels. They still have a lot of growing to do at this point, they are between quarter and loonie size Thanks Vince

eggs won't hatch unless you get a male.
  4. I am currently breeding: Neolamprologus Brevis "sunspot" American Flag Fish Rio Otapa Swordtails Assassin Snails Spixi Snails Apple snails - greys only atm I am currently attempting to breed Gardneri killifish Blue Gularis Sterbai Corydoras Angels German Blue Rams Bristlenose plecos Clown Plecos
  5. yeah, they would have gotten fungus again had it not been for methyl. blue. They did turn white once again.
  6. I have 11, and i usually collect about 20 eggs every 2 weeks. Theres probably a lot more, but I usually don't pick more just in case they do hatch. I'd have way too many fish on my hands!. I've considered that, and I'm not so good at sexing them. I've also read that large groups of female to too few males will also cause the males to get distracted, leaving most of the eggs unfertilized. I may have to get some experts over here to help sex them, and maybe try to breed them in a small breeder with controlled groups.... but that sounds like a lot of work
  7. So i saw fairdeal had some blue acara up for sale and it got me wondering if I could keep them in a standart 4ft 55g planted tank with driftwood? Theres a bunch of sterbai cories in the tank, some rio otapa swordtails, some silver tip tetras, a few ABN's, and a lone L204. Here is an older picture of the tank, it looks very similar to this still. The angelfish in the pic have been moved to their own tank, and new ones are coming to replace them eventually. Well let me know what you guys think
  8. i guess it could spread the aggression out, kinda like with cichlids
  9. Hey folks, I've been trying to get fry from my sterbai cories for months now, they lay eggs every two weeks, and every two weeks i pull the eggs and try to hatch them. Problem is, I still don't have a single hatch yet! At first i was putting them in a breeder net, and hoping they'd hatch (it works for killies, so i figured i was golden.) When that didn't work,I moved my filter output to face the net to add flow. When that didn't work, i moved the net to the other side of the tank and put a higher flow power head in the tank aimed at the net. Still nothing. Now ive purchased a 2.5g hatchery tank, methyl. blue. and pulled the eggs out and put them in a breeder net in the 2.5g. Added methyl blue, an air line into the net so that the water movement would happen closer. And after 5 days.... you guessed it. Nothing. Now the eggs kinda look white, or blue? And im wondering what to do next. If all my attempts reward me with nothing, is it just time to call it a day? Should i get rid of my stock and try again with a different group? Any help will be muchly appreciated.
  10. I agree with Werner, every hobbiest must establish their own limits. The ACE has this question arises often when we are planning a show but where do you draw the line on hybrids when so many have been accepted in the hobby for so long. Many of the peacocks [ aulonocara] are purposely hybridized as are almost any swordtail available now.I personally cant stand bubble eye goldfish or ballon anything but they are widely accepted for some strange reason. the ACE does draw the line at dyed or injected fish [we think thats a no brainer] and the Alberta government made the decision to band the transgenic glowfish so no need for us to deal with that yet so do your research and make up your own mind and if someone tells you that hybrids are abhorent just ask them if they can tell which of the beautiful peacocks are wild types That would be the ones with a collection point :P
  11. what are the dimensions of the fixture? I really love the size of my hagen glo but i know a 4 bulb will need more space. Stupid 55g being 12" wide. Such a silly size. I really should have done more research prior to buying that tank. Oh well, it'll get demoted to the basement and get replaced by a 90 eventually.
  12. score, my credit card is litterally vibrating in my wallet.
  13. do you know what bulbs it comes with? 120 bucks delivered is an awesome price. Im tempted to order one right now...

  15. you could also add julidochromis transcriptus too, if you were to add a rockpile... seriously though, shellies are awesome, my n. brevis tank still captivates me on a daily basis!
  16. It was the fall auction. There is also a SPRING auction though. LOL sorry yeah I just edited that, I meant to ask "There's a Spring Auction?!" when? in the spring? you've got six months to get ready :P
  17. planted blue ram tank! put some cardinal tetras and small cories, and maybe a small pleco type and youll have a beautiful tank
  18. to add to what vall said, not only would africans not be suited, but they also aren't made to communicate with one another. They won't understand the signals one another is sending and you could be in for catastrophic consequences. Instead, why not look at medium sized south american cichlid. Like a blue acara maybe?
  19. oh oops sorry my bad, i was tired when i read that and jumped to conclusions... my apologies
  20. hey jay, i just thought i'd point out that with co2, you don't need to dose flourish anymore, the plants get their carbon from the co2
  21. if you wanted to go with killies, you could check out the fudulopanchax or aphyosemion groups. Both are non-annual plant smaller and there are many species that stay small enough to fit in there without issues
  22. breeding nerite snailsheres the link, towards the bottom is the experience of the one who did it
  23. ill second fishclubgirl on the runners aspect. I stressed the hell out of my red rubin sword and lo and behold, it threw out a runner. I still have both plants, and they did great after being split up
  24. good to know... now to find a source for suitable cyps... i think thats gonna be harder than setting up the tank.
  25. Hey folks, I'm thinking of converting my 55g into a tanganyikan tank with a few shellies and some small julies, but that would leave the top space of my tank unnoccupied. Would some of the smaller cyps or paracyps work with this setup? Or would anything else work better, keeping it a "biotope-ish" tank? Thanks Vince
