  2. Jay, Thanks for the very informative post! Vince
  3. that live feed is very cool. I kinda want to do this with my main display tank so that I have something to look at while im at work.
  4. I can't see anyone else's, just mine. Is there any way to remove it?
  5. Hey folks, Time for another round of pictures. Geophagus sp. Tapajos "Red Head" Geophagus Altifrons "Tocatins" Girardinus Microdactylus Xiphophorus Mayei Appistograma Sp. 6. Hi Mods! I'm curious to know how I can remove the "how did you hear about aa" part from under my profile pic in posts. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
  7. I would add some heavy feedings to start, prior to doing all of the things other people have suggested. A lot of times, the higher quality diet that frozen or live food bring, triggers the females to start producing eggs, and the males sperm becomes more viable. After conditioning them for a couple weeks, do large water changes every 2-3 days until they spawn.
  8. Hey Folks, My brother lent me his fancy DSLR camera so I thought I would share some pics I took tongiht. My rainford's goby Some nice purple/blue mushrooms Some coral I forgot the name of but looks cool. Few week old Dwarf Gourami Month or so old X. Alvarezi Swordtail Male Aphyosemion Primigenium Hope you enjoy! Thanks Vince
  9. how much are you selling those unidentified cories for?
  10. woot! congrats! Very interested in getting some of these!
  11. I had it around 80, but the tank I moved the mop to was a little lower in temp. I may have to invest in a cheap heater if I want to be successful long term. i think its down around 74F at the warmest. I did see a fry in the tub prior to moving the net.
  12. well i think i may have moved the mop too soon as I don't see any fry coming out of it. I hope I just set them back a few days
  13. bahahahaha, that made me chuckle. You never know in this day and age.
  14. Hello Folks, I was lucky enough to pick up a pair of these from Rainbowrick a while back, and yesterday morning, I spotted my first fry!! I have the pair housed in a 20g pleco breeding tank, and I added a floating spawning mop in order to collect the eggs. About a week and a bit ago, I checked the mop and saw a few very small eggs so I moved it to a white bucket, added an airstone and heater. The heater was kept at approximatly 78C and the fry hatched in just over a week. Last night I moved the mop over to a established 2.5 gallon tank to let the fry hatch out where I can see them better. I have a second 2.5g to move the newly hatched fry into that has lots of plant cover and little critters swimming around in it. That's all I got for now, I'll try and snap pics if I can, and update as I got stuff to update. Thanks Vince
  15. As stated last night, there was a very low voter turn out, and because of many ties. Only three certificates were handed out. We had a great turn out, but nobody bothered to pick their favorite fish. Best Egg layer went to Wingin' it for her bangai cardinal Best Live-bearer went to Jerry for his swordtail Second place Live-bearer went to Dan11 for his guppy. Turn out in the live-bearer category was only 2 entries. In retrospect, I think next year well only run one category, best in show. And I'll try and make it idiot proof to reduce on confusion.
  16. I'd like to give a big thank you to the people who participated! Great thanks to Stacy for her talk on plants, it was very informative. Thanks vince
  17. i don't think it matters much? if people want to have plants in their tank, they are more than welcome to do so. I would just think it may interfere with how they're fish will be seen?
  18. The jar show as far as I can remember is just a toned down version of the show. Typically speaking, there is one fish per "jar" or tank. For this event, we decided to go with 2 basic category, but at he march show I believe there will be a planted tank section. For this event, we are only voting on best of the egg layers, and best of the live bearers, as well as overall best in show.
  19. sorry fcg, other people ruined it for you previously
  20. you can bring your fish in a jar... I think theres a stipulation you have to own the fish for 60days prior to a show for them to be eligible.
  21. Hi folks, Just wanted to notify you that the club will be hosting a jar show at our november meeting. There will be two categories, egg layers and live-bearers, to keep it easy. We will be handing out certificates for the first three places as well as best in show. Also, the best in show fish will have their owner's names engraved on our jar show cup, effectively immortilizing you in club lore! Finally, ther will also be a prize for participation, so I hope to see you all there! If you have any questions, fee free to contact me via email or pm. Thanks vince
  22. I kept tracked nerites with shail dwellers, don't know how that would pan out with some of the larger tangs though.
