  1. Female dropped in a breeding trap two weeks ago. She didn't look too large so I wasn't expecting much in the way of numbers. Today I moved the fry out of the trap. To my surprise there were 37 in there. Livebearer mesh trap approximately 4x8", with guppy grass
  2. Had 8 pairs of year plus adults from a single female who died after she gave birth. Last week at the Edmonton auction I sold two of the pairs. At the time I also had approximately 15 youngsters growing out in a tank by themselves. Three days ago had a drop of about 15, today I got another drop of 16 and also have 2 females in two breeding nets who should drop in a couple of days. One other female is also ready to drop but I have no place to put her, she is in a tank with other adults and some ilyodon furcidens, so young will be eaten unless one of the other two drops first and then I could transfer her to the net. Before I use to let them have the young in their tanks but none ever survived. The tanks are well planted with plenty of places to hide, but even if there were only tequilas in the tank the fry would all be gone within a few days.
  3. Ameca splenden fry have a black dot (circle) at the base of the tail. Very distinct.
  4. Fishclubgirl if you are going to be at the Edmonton auction, I will buy some portholes and liberty mollies off you.
  5. I thought I had seen somewhere that the auction was 25 Oct, am I mistaken?
  6. I have x montezumae or goodeids (Ameca, orange tailed and chapalichthys) but am not sure if I will be at the Calgary auction, I live in Edmonton
  7. Is anyone on this site putting in or know if any rare livebearers will be in the auction? I don't really have time to drive from Edmonton if there isn't something really worthwhile for me, especially with the Edmonton auction being the following week. Looking for goodeids ( but not Ameca Splendens, orange tailed goodeid or Chapithlys as I have these). Also looking for swordtails (xiphophorous birchmanni, cortezi, nezahuacoyoti) Know the auction will be a good one.
  8. People are always giving away or thowing away old gym equipment. You can easily make a nice looking stand out of the bars used for benches ect...
  9. I stumbled on this by chance. Has anyone posted it on the Canadian Aquarium Connection site?
  10. I need to ship some small fish. Does anyone know where I can purchase breather bags. I'm in Edmonton.
  11. Sometimes goodeids stop breeding during the winter. They usual start up again with the renewed sunshine, usually start mating around this time and gestation can be up to 2 months. I have loads of Amecas if you want some. Located near Whyte Ave.
  12. Do they get them on a regular basis? I haven't seen live worms in years. I would even contemplate the 6 hour return trip to get some.
  13. The larger the fry the smaller the batch. Age/size of female is a big factor also. My older females usually drop in the 30+range.
  14. If you have any interesting livebeares to trade I could part with 4 juvenile Skiffia Lermae(they are just old enough to determine the sex). They are the offspring of fish I bought at the ACE auction around April, fish were from LTJIGGS of Burlington On
  15. I haven't encountered any problems with Ameca Spendends aggression. If you would like some (free)let me know. Also have vallisneria plants (don't know the sub-species name) for free, they are pretty hardy and aren't bothered by algae. Located near Whyte and Gateway in Edmonton.
  16. I've never heard of aggressive mollies. Did the fish store give you this fact? They certainly couldn't harm cories. Mollies don't even bother their own young.
  17. I'll be there to net any unusal livebearers. Will donate my usual Ameca Spendens and Orange tailed goodeids and a few plants.
  18. I had mollies that lived and reproduced in my salt water tank. It only took a couple of days of gradually adding a bit of salt for them to adapt. From the origingal 4 I ended up with about 100. Before that I use to feed my lionfish fresh water fish (guppies and red-tailed goodeids), he seemed happy and healthy.
  19. Yes, I agree. I think I had heard there was an auction in Calgary this weekend, but I don't see anything on the calendar.
  20. Hi, just wondering if anyone on this forum will be putting any interesting livebearers up for sale at the Calgary auction on March 7th. I don't want to waste time and money driving from Edmonton if there won't be any fish I'm interested in. I'm strictly after livebearers, but not guppies, mollies, regular swords, Ameca Splendens or Red-tailed Goodeids. Thanks, Adrian

  22. I too have had people lead me on about available fish. Telling me for weeks that they were available. Even said the fish would be delivered a certain week, then just before saying something came up with their delivery vehicle and the fish would be delivered the following week. Then nothing further from the person. People if you are so attached to your fish, don't lead us on, just keep them and don't waste our time. Please and thank you.
  23. Could you please explain what you are talking about? Location? ect... thanks
  24. Platies. They are pretty, hardy and the reproductive clycle will intrest the kids. The Betta will also get some choice meals. When I was in school, one of my teachers had a planted tank with some red platties, it was quite gorgeous.
