  1. hahaha...I can't believe I watch it 'till the end . Well..the tank looks nice. You could make a video of your fish (close up) cruising around the tank..with a music as a background . just another idea when you bored next time hehehe
  2. Thanks..too bad I'm not in Edmonton hehe. I wonder if the lighting fixture is sold separately by Hagen. What I meant is the whole black, plastic part where the lights are installed. I just thought maybe it's safer to just change the whole part completely.
  3. The light fitting on my fluval edge has a brownish mark. It looks like it's a sign of corrosion or maybe burnt sign. It only happen on the right side. This may also explain why I always have to change the bulb on the right earlier than the one on the left side. For information, I had used 3 bulbs on the right, and only use 1 for the left. Has someone here have the same issue? Is it safe to still use it? thanks.
  4. nice woods. I'm just wondering if the pink board will be tank's background? Are you going to make the right side (the taller branch) as your focal point? Great start ...
  5. That's amazing set up. I wish I can see this type of aquarium in person
  6. It is very cool. maybe someone in this forum needs to come up with a drawing design, complete with the layout and type of plants etc. Whoever win the best design will have the opportunity to build it for free . Now.. we need a sponsor
  7. yeah I was hoping to see the pictures. Well.. at least I got to see the grand prize's pictures. Is there any event like this in Canada or US? will be nice to see the show case.
  8. @jcgd: yeah if I start over, I wanna do it right. I think the problem I have caused by having too much light/heat. I used led MR11 and the tank is placed is facing west. I don't think I can move it to a different place. @the influence: it's fluval edge. everything was ok before of course.. and now it's out of control.
  9. so... do you think it's still good idea to start over? i used mini CO2 kit from Fluval.
  10. It's planted tank... or used to be planted tank because now it's become an algae tank.
  11. I'm tired of algae and really don't like how the tank looks like right now. I'm thinking to start over..by shutting down the tank and change the filter, throw all the gravel, rocks & plants. Scrub the tank until I don't see the algae with my naked eyes. Now.. before I go crazy cleaning the tank, any suggestion or advice what I should do? What would be the fastest way to get rid the algae other than getting a brand new tank? thanks
  12. hm..that's interesting. I've problem with algae right now and have a thought to just shut down the tank. Maybe I should try your method
  13. very nice. I'm impressed ..
  14. Good for you. Congrats.Hope to see some pictures
  15. any picture? just wondering how it looks like. thanks.
  16. absolutely. It brings me joy when I see the fish swimming happily in my tank. When I 'm sad or stressed out..and I see my 'innocent' fish, it warms my heart again :& . If I could bring fish home as many as I want..I would :smokey: So..lucky you, can bring more fish home :
  17. I like the light effect shown in this DIY thread (done by CGY_Betta_Guy...hope you don't mind I pasted the link here ). be aware..this link contains lots of pictures: : http://albertaaquati...0 I don't have the expertise to do the DIY lights...but I like the result as shown in the pictures. Does anyone know where I can get this kind of lights? or something similar? I need to have one for my Fluval Edge :smokey: Thanks for the info.
  18. yes..it's a cute tank., love it! ..I hope the plant won't die and I can't wait to put my betta there
  19. Well...I decided to get the Fluval Desktop (Spec) today. I like the size and because it fits on my small counter and it has all this built in filter, pump & light..I'm hoping this small tank will be a new 'healthy' and less maintenance home for my betta. I have trouble installing the pump though ..and I haven't run the tank yet. Tonight I just put rocks and plants with little bit of water and leave the light on. Hopefully when I wake up tomorrow morning the plants are still alive . Here is the snap of it: I'm not sure now if I should leave this post under this Equipment category. Feel free to move it to the appropriate topic
  20. cool...wonder if there is any store in Calgary that has this as a display
  21. I'm thinking to move my male betta from 1 gal unpleasant tank to this Fluval Desktop. I wonder if someone here has Fluval Desktop kit. Do you have any trouble with it? Any caution, tips would be great. thanks
  22. It'll root much better with a dry start. OR... drain the water to the top of the gravel, carefully plant everything being sure to back fill any craters left from your tweezers. Cover everything lightly with news paper or paper towel and then add a layer or two of saran wrap over the paper. Very slowly refill the tank. Something a little bigger than air line tubing is perfect to let the water run in the tank. You want the water to move very slowly and not disturb anything. Once full, slowly remove the saran and paper and everything should be undisturbed. HC doesn't root well without a dry start. Most people have this issue. Another thing you can do is sprinkle substrate on top of the HC after you plant it to add weight. Once it fills in the sprinkling will be covered. Thank you for the tips. btw..I've received the Takashi Amano's book. It's a great book & inspiring for setting up Iwagumi aquascape.
  23. ok..someone probably asked this before, but ...may I ask you..: Are you a professional photographer? Your shots always stunning, take my breath away! Thank you for sharing
