  1. Every fish of mine brings me joy. Even better is when I get to trade with you Cate LOL!
  2. I overlooked the obvious, mineral buildup! I should know better, I am a plant care specialist. I have a constant battle with mineral buildup with my potted plants, my fish tanks should be no different. I also did not consider that plants only use co2 for a limited time every day, levels naturally fluctuate. I do not believe everything I read on the net, that is why I have this forum to ask questions lol!
  3. I recently read an article on low tech planted tanks, an interesting read. http://www.sudeepman...ted-tank-guide/ Just when I thought I was getting a bit of an understanding about planted tanks I read this and now I am confused! "Also make sure that you DO NOT perform any water changes at all! The reason for this is that tap water will have a different amount of dissolved CO2 as compared to what is in your tank. If you perform regular water changes you are effectively causing fluctuations in the CO2 levels in your tank which provides a perfect environment for algae to start thriving in. Only perform top offs for evaporated water" I thought water changes were a good thing ....
  4. I was surfing and came upon the ID by accident! They are Nymphaea 'Pygmaea Helvola". I was quite excited!

    Hi I Am New

Hi Christie, That is quite an assortment of cichlids. It may work for now but some of them are going to get big and aggressive. It can be a bit tricky to sex jewels, if you post a pic I can give you a best guess.
  6. I am watching this topic, I have a pair of angels that are getting ready to breed. It would be great if you could keep up with the updates and what you are doing for them. Great pictures!
  7. I believe you have to post once in the "say hello" forum. After I posted I had full access to the site.
  8. I too have had an explosion of the nasty stuff! I know temperature is not the issue as I have it in my cold water tanks. I will try adding co2 too!
  9. Thanks for all the positive feedback! DJay, your shrimp look amazing!
  10. I was just reading the Walstad article in the planted tank forum. She states that cherry shrimp do fine with no heater in the tank. I have always raised mine in a heated tank but no heater opens up a world of possibilities! What success has anyone had with the "no heat" method of raising shrimpies?
  11. Checking on the progress with breeding your long fin plecos. Is there the splish splash of little fins yet?

  12. Sorry for your loss. We do get attached to our finned friends.
  13. I had a group of 5 and they got along really well and were quite friendly. I had an internal filter and it was so funny to watch them "stick" themselves to the intake.
  14. I have lucky bamboo in my cichlid tank. It is growing quite well with all the poop the fish produce! I have the roots in the gravel and the leaves out of the tank. I noticed that shoots are forming under water so it will be interesting to see how it grows under water.
  15. Sounds like a color change due to stress. I know my convict parents harassed, all my fish that were much bigger than them, when they had babies. My 8" Venustus male, and all the rest, cowered in the top corner of the 110 gallon tank till I removed the convicts.
  16. Very nice little tank! I really like the fluval series of mini tanks. I bought a Chi from BettaVV and love it. The plants were doing really well until I went on vacation, lots of hair algae now. I am already planning to get an Edge
  17. Amazing shrimp! Do you ship LOL?
  18. Where did you find it? I must have some! LOL
  19. How is the plant doing? It is amazing! Hopefully it takes off and we can do a trade!
  20. Jason, you are the man! Never thought of that one!!!!!
  21. We are renovating all of our bathrooms. I would like to re-purpose the old school clam shell vanity top, especially the parts that are attached to the wall. I am sure there is a technical name for them. What do I have to be aware of when using them? Is there anything that would hurt the fish? We have three bathrooms, so I will have quite a bit to work with!
  22. Thanks everyone! Luckly the plants won't be under the saltwater lights long, three weeks at the most. I have great plans for the 48 gallon, will take a while to scape all the levels etc. I can't believe how big the plants grew in the four months they were in the tank! One val is now a large multi plant chain and the tiny sword has plantlets as big as it was! The tiny container of frogbit has grown leaps and bounds lol. I really did not notice until I pulled them out. It really is time to upgrade.
