  1. Yeah I've been thinking about taking him out and putting him in a bucket with some food for a couple days possibly. I actually just noticed he has a little bit of a white spot on his nose.. looks like maybe the skin has rubbed off a bit even, I'm not sure. My setup is a 55 gallon with 5 red belly Piranhas and the common pleco, Eheim 2213, Aquaclear 70, heater (i forget how many watts, but it does the trick), Double T5 light fixture, black sand, and that's pretty much it. I have no bubbler, but I do keep the water level a little bit lower most of the time so the Aquaclear agitates the water. I have had this setup running for well over a year now with no problem, the fish are getting very large and I will need to upgrade soon but the water parameters are fine right now. And as you said, something is definitely off, I've had him for a long time and he has never acted this way before. He's usually very active and actually chases the Piranhas around when I put food in the tank. he might have just swam into a sharp surface and damaged his skin.. I would dose the tank with salt and keep and eye on that. Reds need more o2 than the average fish and you really should have a bubbler in the tank with a shoal of pygos, especially when they are getting bigger and still in a 55. I have 5 reds that I have had for a few years now and in my experience you need quite a bit of o2 for them and a pleco to be healthy/happy my setup last year
  2. the snail thats floating will be fine just throw in an algae wafer every once and a while and as far as more o2, you can just agitate the surface some more or if you have a HOB filter then just leave the water level a little lower. That being said, if thats the first time you've ever seen him put out the tube then i wouldnt even worry about it. Only if it becomes really often..
  3. the floating one is a defensive mechanism where if there isnt enough food in the area then they will try to float to a new area to find a better food source. I would put an algae wafer into the tank every couple of days for now. the tube on the other one is how they get air if there isnt enough for them. Its trying to get the air tube to the surface but obviously that wont happen. I would try to get more o2 into the water soon
  4. i agree that im not even sure there is a problem here but its better to be sure, especially when the owner notices some weird actions
  5. honestly i would take him out for a bit and see if he does better. can you please list off your whole setup including air bubbler
  6. the substrate a very light colour? My rhino pleco changes colour when i move him to a tank with light coloured sand substrate. How much algae is there for him to eat off the glass and how does his poop look? The poop should be continuous and have good colour. If hes an older/large pleco they will typically need wood in part of their diet also Stress can make a colour go pale but the up and down on the glass thing sounds pretty normal
  7. they are really growing fast it seems! and fat haha Its good to see them all healthy with no deformaties
  8. very good to hear! its always hard for me to see a fish that might not make it.. We have a jewel thats just getting back into 100% now

  11. i know of a couple of places but they are not the type of thing i advertize for that exact reason. Good sturgeon fishing is hard to come by

  13. I saw a couple of videos you had posted on the other forum from 2007. I have been researching and basically this will be my setup as of now: 5' 110 gallon with a 6' 180 gallon for her once she needs more space 2x Rena XP3s hydor eth 300 watt external heater set @ temp of 82-83 PH of 7.8+ which i can reach with the substrate fine crushed coral substrate deep enough to completely burry itself 1 tsp of salt per 5 gallons UVB 10.0 florecent light Decorations with soft edges and rest areas on either side of the tank that is semi close to the surface foods with vitamin d3 suppliment/soaked in suppliment Romaine lettuce, Anacharis, Water lettuce, hyacinth, vallisneria and other plants Kiwi, papaya, banana and other fruits sinking waffers in different varieties including some 29% or other high protein pellets mixed into diet Basically a varied diet and hopefully I will find some plants that he/she likes to nibble on. I have all of this equipment ready to setup and will be doing so after i move into my new place june 1st. Will be focusing more so than with our other tanks on water quality and paramaters Advise is appreciated! Thanks

  15. I hope he makes it! Cichlids are tough fish
  16. Im not 100% sure what im looking for yet and especially what to look for besides the obvious things, health wise. I still have over a month to research before I bring one home. I have a 5' 110 gallon ready for this and a couple xp3s etc. any experienced keepers with advise is appreciated
  17. hey guys I'm looking for a good (hopefully canadian) reptile forum for people with pig nosed / fly river turtle. I'm not looking to debate the legalities of owning one as a pet in alberta because I have already done that research. Have already been on the major "google searched" sites and got quite a bit of quality info but I'm looking to talk to some canadian owners if possible. Thanks for any help! Kyle
  18. I like drivers. I'm an insulator but we're packing up sunday and heading out.. I'll be on the 7am to calgary on monday. I'm in mckay camp which is the one by west gate. M wing
  19. We only get a $2 premium for night shift with JV driver.. If you've never been to cnrl then dont go straight to your camp. Go first to "west gate" and push the top button to get a number for a room or you'll be waiting for a really long time. They'll send your bags to your camp so keep your tickets in your wallet to show the lady there
  20. She said they were all ok before the water change and immediately afterwards one was dead and the rest didn't look so good. I dont see it being anything other than the shock that could have killed it.. It seems pretty obvious to me.
  21. Kind of OT but where are you working exactly. I work at CNRL out of fort mckay..
  22. Not a good routine! I really wouldn't agree that they"like" that either

    Xp3 Issue

We have 4x xp3s and they are very good filters. This is a common issue and its just a more temperamental design for not purging all of the air. You have to tip the filter forward and shake it a bit with it running and the air will typically work its way out. If it doesn't all come out like that then just leave it and it will eventually work itself out
  24. We're happy they're doing well for you. They look great!
