i read somewhere that they ban transportation of live fish because people were doing illegal stocking and it lead to spread of disease and if you throw pike in a trout lake......it will soon be a pike lake!!!! i also remember reading about boat launches having a "spray down" of boats entering lakes,this spray down was meant to kill or wash away anything that could be transfered lake to lake......in Ontario if i remember right? -

IT IS HIGHLY ILLEGAL TO TRANSPORT LIVE FISH FROM NATIVE WATERS!!!!! its in the regs. -
do you anyone that does catering or someone who works in a cafeteria...either of these would have pails from food items.....mayo,ketchup,mustard etc etc

thanks Ray,my fish are very similar in appearance, but i see yours have a little orange on the head where as mine do not.It could be mine are younger,also yours have (could be the photo) a more sloped forehead which could be the age diff. aswell.My fish are creeping up on the 4" mark,how long/old are your fish. my fish have been diggin a pit for 4 days now but no eggs unless the others ate them.....they are still doin their cichlid ritual though.My 5" severum continues to pester them in their moment but i cant move him into my 100gal with the other severums because they fight. maybe if 0ne of us have a successful spawn we can trade a few to shake up the blood lines thanks oooh also my fish have a bright blue upper lip

pasta will swell up in their stomach and kill them........seen it happen to a dog -
1 of them have been digging in one corner near a sloped rock,would it be the male or female doing the digging? i noticed them hanging around this spot for 2 days and now they have dug a pit 3"s deep but my severum keeps interupting them.......shouldn't they be be defending this spot even though the severum is quite abit bigger?

i bought some orange head tapajos geo's at big als several months ago and their heads are not orange at all,infact after alittle research they resemble the abalios geo alot!!
So i was wondering what yours looked like?
mine are almost 4" long.

just wondering if you had some pics of your geo's.....I bought some from bid als several months ago and are nearly 4"s without any orange on the head yet,i'm thinking they are actually abalios geo's so i just wanted to compare,so if you have any pics it'de be appreciated

thanks guys/girls..... after googling a bunch i think my orange heads aren't what they were sold me as!!!! they look precisely like the Abalios geo,which i don't mind but they grow to 10" plus in size!!! GOOD OLE BIG ALS!!!! They are still very beautiful and extremely interesting,I have pics of them under "sa/ca cichlids" that i posted awhile back so feel free to examine and give your thoughts.I looked on youtube at them and I think that's what I have because of the dark band that's vertical on the eye and the coloring is pretty much exact. thanks again ps......I think a couple are trying to pair up.....doing the shimmy/skake and biting on ornaments......show offs!!!!

I was in Big Als about 2 months ago when i seen some orange head geophagus that were about 2"s long and their heads were actually orange unlike the ones I bought from them 6 months ago that are 3-3.5"s long and aren't showing any orange yet,after googling i've seen pics of these fish that look like both groups i've seen,so are there 2 different orange head species? I paid $14 for each and those ones were $25

i originally bought 4 to get a pair and now i do and its very obvious.....now i want to determine m/f,to best of my knowledge the male should have longer fins and grow larger quicker,this is true to one of the paired fish.The one thing that throws me off is that the smaller one who aggressively chases the other severums and challenges other fish which i thought would be the male?These facial markings i've read about are non-existant and all the fish look exact!! So my question is .....how can i determine a green severums sex at 5"s long?

i've tried jungles parasite tablets twice with a 25% water change and it still just keeps shi****ing white stringy stuff does this mean its working.......the package doesn't say whats suppose to happen or when its cured any other ideas?
