  5. theres one on the southside and one in clairview.
  6. just go to aqua giant... its like 5 dollars a pound.... if you buy online, you'll be paying more than 5 dollars a pound just on shipping
  7. i brought a friend with me, his first time at the auction... he asked me "is this an auction or a comedy show?"
  8. so get this.... i picked up those 3 54w T5HO bulbs..... but they dont fit a standard 48" t5HO fixture.... they're an inch to long!!! so i took appart the fixture and made it an inch longer love the color of the bulbs oh and i got a bucket of crushed coral exactly what i was looking for
  9. neil just built my 180 gallon tank as well. great guy

  13. Here it is. bought a fluval edge for 20 bucks and decided to make it into a saltwater tank. took liverock from my bigger tank modded the hood and upgraded lights to two 26w fluorescent bulbs
  14. i've used shop lights with no problem before..... but i used T8 bulbs. you can put T8 bulbs into any T12 fixture and you'll get better light output from T8
  15. lol i bought a tank off a guy that kept his cichlids in a tank of non treated water for 5 years...... water straight out of the edmonton tap .... oh and he says he's never done a water change... just the occasional top up.... IN 5 YEARS!!!!!
  16. honestly instead of starting a thread every time you could just keep asking questions in the thread you made previously. you dont need any overflow if you're going to have a canister filter. and why are you going so big as your first tank? why dont you start off with something smaller to get your feet wet and see if you really like it, instead of investing all this money only to find out that you might not have the time or love for keeping an aquarium
  17. you dont need to run a sump on a freshwater... but you can if you want.... if you do then you'll need to drill holes and have an overflow built into the tank. or you an just run canister filters like the fluval FX5
  18. honestly i use a 1900 GPH pump on my 180 gallon and a good price to pay is 100 bucks... which is exactly what the guy is selling it for on kijiji
  19. i use to be able to catch all the poop off my aragonite sand bottom with a fluval 404..... i put the intake about an inch off the sand and when the plecos came out at night, they'd stir up all the poop and it would get sucked in..... by morning the sand was perfectly white agian
  20. any media you get is just gonna cause stuff to get caught in it and it will break down into nitrates....... so if you do run media or a filter sock you need to clean it every few days. the main purpose of a sump is to house the skimmer, heater, refugium and allows for it to be topped up without the water level in the display every dropping
  21. yeah it changes and grows up to over 2 feet long.... i dont think that my 150 will be good enough for the adult size. but ill sell him or something in a few years when he gets to big. i use a canon 5d mark ii with an 85mm f1.2 lens and a wireless flash above the tank
