  1. You mentioned that your water was cloudy. Did you just recently set it up? If a tank isn't cycled it can cause stress for the fish. If it's been cycled and it's cloudy then you should do some extra water changes to clear it up. The dead fish will increase the ammonia, and more of that in the tank is bad for the fishes. Also, are you adding the water the fish come in from the store to your tank? It's best to never add water to your tank from another tank unless you know for sure what the water conditions are. I've got 2 pandas in a 10g, they're busy little guys. Gonna move them to a bigger tank once I find another and get them 4 more friends. Love watching them swim around!
  2. Glad to hear they're doing better!
  3. Welcome to the furum! Lot's of wonderful people here
  4. Sorry to hear, but don't worry too much about it, cause your on the mend now. Knowing what's wrong makes a world of difference. Everyone deals with Ich at some point. I wish I had mentioned Ich, but there was never a mention of anything external, so I went and focused on internal problems Best of luck helping your fishies recover! Edit: +1 for what Sprucegruve said. It can be treated without meds. Try using meds as a last resort if the natural way doesn't help. Of coarse it is up to you. Meds do work a bit faster.
  5. Another social gathering would be nice. I love the Casino night idea! A BBQ could be nice too...or both together! Good burgers, some gambling, and socializing with fellow AA members. Yep, I like it
  6. What plants do you have? You know I'll take some I'll be in the West End this weekend, we should plan some sort of meet up. Oh, I could get that stuff too. and I always listen to your tips. Plus you know more about plants than I do. Figured if I do what you do then maybe mine will look at least half as nice as yours
  7. Yeah, I'll go with super plants lol Only house plants I used to be able to keep alive were Cacti, but now I have plants completely covering my kitchen table. Not even sure what most of them are, but they're pretty lol He posted a tip about spraying out of water plants with carbonated water to speed up their growth. Seems to be working for mine. Cacti don't usually grow this fast for me, except for my one big one that I have to re-pot again. I got it about 4 years ago, and it's 3x-5x the size now...well might be exaggerating a little, but still. Not a fun plant to re-pot... Plecos are really hardy. Their body is covered in hard scales I think. I'm sure they'll be fine with the Kribs, mine have no problems. Good luck re-homing the common plecos. Hope that guy get's them soon.
  8. Well, I'm up to 7 tanks now. So much for saving power and space lol Might as well add an 8th! Make it good and even ;D

  10. I've read this post a few times now, and I'm curious to know why there expressing such behavior. The only things I can think of are they're pregnant, but that would be assuming that they're all female. If the males are doing it too, then that's odd. Other thing I thought of is possible parasites/worms. It doesn't hurt to take a good look at their butts to see if there are any wigglers hanging out. Looking up different parasites/worms and knowing some info can help you notice things faster if that is the case. Hopefully not though, cause they're a pain to deal with. Are they eating normal? Have their appetites changed at all? Loss of weight? Those are common signs that something's wrong on the inside. If you just got these fish, then the other fish in the tank wouldn't show any signs for awhile. Takes time for symptoms to show. Could also be that the water conditions are much different in your tank than the one they came from. Could be they're just getting used to it and a bit stressed, but rubbing in the sand instead of clamped fins? I dunno...I'm just throwing out random ideas. Are your friends platy's behaving normally?
  11. lol yeah Cory's are very curious! Just googled the cryptoheros nanaluteas, so pretty! I'd love to get more cichlid's, but I know that if I don't slow down, then I'll end up with too many fish again lol Hubby wants a 20-30g tank, so gonna take advantage of that! Might sneak in a few fish I want into his tank hahaha Too bad the shrimp became instant snacks. I'm sure that would happen if I tried putting them in with my 55g. Everything I have in there would go "FOOD!" and chaos would ensue. From what you describe, you've got Brown and Red Ramshorn Snails. Not surprising since he's got 100's. I had a bunch hitch a ride on the first plants he gave me...and the second batch lol It's funny, I'll go out and buy plants, and half of them die, all the plants Sprucegruve gives me live. I don't know if they keep the plants clean or not, can't remember. I hope he feels the same, poor girl might get heartbroken hehe
  12. I completely forgot about Oto's! Mine ignore the Kribs and the Kribs ignore them. They'd be good tank mates. I don't think Oto's or Cory's would bother attempting to steal eggs from a Krib. You could also try some snails to help with algae, like Nerite's. You could try shrimp, but they'd likely get eaten. I have seen some tanks with shrimp and larger fish, so it is possible, but still a gamble.
  13. I have 2 Clown Plecos and 1 Rubbernose Pleco, also have some Apple Snails which seemed interested in snacking on the eggs too. The kribs do a great job defending the eggs, but once the lights turn off the plecos swoop in. That's why a cave with 1 small entrance is best, cause the female will pile sand in the entrance to block it off from other fish. I think she'll actually stay in the cave until the eggs hatch, but don't know for sure. I'm cutting the "doors" on the coconut huts today...a bit worried cause I'm a bit of a klutz with tools lol It is good that their hanging out in the pots/caves a lot. They might be trying to find a spot they like to spawn. If I don't have any luck then I'm gonna take a good look at Sprucegruve's set up, and try to mimic it a bit. Seeing the fry swimming around in his tank with the parents is what made me want chichlids. Seeing fish not eat their own fry was so nice lol Plus their vivid colors when spawning. Kinda makes me want to get a male companion for my Apisto so I can see her bright colors.
  14. The purple belly is a good sign. If you see them hanging around a certain spot or in a cave a lot, then they're possibly spawning/spawn ready. The female likes to pick up sand in her mouth and spit it out, making a "door" for the cave, or just digging a hole in a corner of the tank like mine did lol I hope they spawn for you soon! It's so exciting! Mine are close to spawning again, so I'm scurrying to get the coconut huts ready for the tank. Hopefully they use these huts, cause the pots apparently don't appeal to them.
  15. They're looking great! Exactly what type of penny wort is that? They're taller than the ones I have. Also, how did you get them positioned like that? Did you tie some stems to something and let them grow in a bundle? Them and the rest of the plants look beautiful
  16. I just get rid of algae using Nerite snails and a toothbrush. I hate those brushes they sell in the stores, they're too big and I end up slashing water everywhere. Tried a toothbrush, and it scrubbed the algae off easy peasy!
  17. It's looking good so far! I hadn't thought to use black sand for a terrarium. I'll have to look into that when I'm ready to change the sand in my 20g for my shell dwellers.
  18. Thank you! I didn't think there would be that much involved in setting one up. I'll make sure to do all of that
  19. Thank you! It's good to know where to buy them if I can't find enough digging around town.
  20. Thank you Why should I not tell them I'm feeding them to fish?
  21. I'd like to start a compost for my plants and need some worms. I also plan to feed some worms to my fish as a treat once in awhile. Could I just go into my parents garden and dig up some wigglers, or should I buy some from a worm farm/store...there are people who grow worms right? Are there any other critters that would be good at composting and that I could feed to my fish?

    Hello All

Hello! Welcome to AA Nice looking tank!
  23. Welcome to AA! What are the shape of the baby snails? Could be pond snails or mts. They can breed like crazy and overrun a tank, but those assassin snails can make a good meal of them if need be
