  1. Has anyone used one of these filters? Are they any good?
  2. There is another thread in AA about shrimp that I read recently. The contributor was called ShrimpsRUs and they made a comment about shrimp and prime that you might find interesting. Not sure how to attach the thread so I copied what they put. The name of the thread is: How To Keep Crystal Red Shrimp Right? , if you want to follow it from beginning to end. Good luck!H ShrimpsRUS "I'm going to jump in here with something....I have had BAD experience with shrimps and Bettas using PRIME! Killed all of my Bettas in 2 days, when I used it for their tanks. I also know others that have had die offs and have been using Prime...don't know what it does, but something the shrimps don't like. I only use Amquel+ for my water topups, and I don't change my water unless I detect ammonia in it (which I have never had happen) I keep duckweed floating on the top for the nitrates/nitrites and use Fluval Stratum soil too. I found however that the PH does go back up over 7 after a few months with this soil....so might want to check your PH. CRS are very susceptible to PH swings and they also don't like very warm water....where they come from the streams can be very cold."
  3. Thanks Nautilus, for the quick reply! Now that you mention it, I did an 25% water change before I added my container of aquarium salt and when replacing the water got it a bit close to the top. I also inspected the back of the tank and noticed some drippage (is that a word ) down the back where the bubbler hose comes into the tank. So I think what I am going to do is take out some water, clean the glass, trim etc... and maybe turn down the bubbler (?) to see if it comes back. Good plan? Any other ideas? THANK YOU SO MUCH!
  4. Not sure if this is the correct forum for this question, but here goes: I have a 46 gallon bow front fish tank and last week I added a container of aquarium salt, with holes in the top (appropriate to tank size) to help combat some flashing that was happening with my fish. A few days after adding the salt, I noticed what looked to me, like salt creep happening on the front of the tank, right in the middle of the bow on the bottom of the tank. It appeared between the glass and the bottom brace. I have since scraped it away but in the back of my mind I am worried about a slow leak. Where this had occurred, there doesn't seem to be any moisture per se, that is to say if I put a tissue on it, it doesn't come up wet. I also have a glass lid on the tank and the bubbler is far enough away from the front of the tank that it should not cause any moisture to come off the top and down the front of the glass. I haven't seen it come back...yet, but if it does, should I prepare for the worst? If anyone has experienced this phenomena before and can give me some advice that would be great! Thanks!

    Hello All

Thanks guys! Have have several different fish. In my small tank I have a few ameca splendins. In the 20 gallon, there are some tetras and danios. In my 36 gallon I have lyre tail mollies, balloon belly mollies and some guppies. Many years ago I had a 66 gallon salt water tank with all the trimmings. I am slowly making my way back to salt water. I had forgotten how addictive "fishing" was.

    Driftwood

I too found a few pieces like that while camping this summer. I happened to have a big stainless steel bowl that I put on my stove to boil the water. The pieces where too large, meaning they were sicking out the top, so I continued to flip the pieces over so all ends got a good boiling. I then scrubbed it with a wire brush to get the extra cooties off and then stuck it in my oven at 325 F for about 2 hours. At about 2 hours, I just turned off the oven and let the wood cool with the oven. I have since put them in my tank and so far-so good.

    Hello All

Hello All, I'm new to Aquatica. I started with a 5 gallon tank about 6 months ago and got hooked. Now I also have a 20 gallon and a 36 gallon. I am glad to join this community as I always have a raft of questions and it's nice to know that there are folks close to home willing to help.
