    20G Planted

It's definitely not indica. I have some floating indica in the tank. The leaves are much slimmer and longer. I will get a closeup pic.

    20G Planted

It seems like it could be. The plant is still young and it is still changing. It looks much much different then it was when I got it. But it still doesn't look like the nanjenshan I see in the pictures on google.

    20G Planted

On a different site someone speculated it was Rotala nanjenshan. I got it from Aquaflora Nurseries and they had it labelled as Alternathera reineckii but it most definitely is not LOL.
  4. Thanks corrosionjerry. I decided to start a journal for this tank. I bought an aqua tub of diplis diandra. I hope it acclimates and does well.

    20G Planted

Hi! I decided to start a journal of my tank here.... so here's the story. I recently broke down a 50g and downgraded it to this 20g. This is my 3rd go at planted tanks and is probably the first one I am really happy with. I always found it hard to scape with wood in the 50g as I couldn't get any pieces big enough so I decided to try with rocks this time. I think the rocks are too low to the ground though and might possibly try to find some larger pieces. I wanted to set one of these journals up because I like creepin other peoples journal pages but I have been slackin and just never got around to it. Substrate: Seachem Flourite Black Lighting: Aquatic Life Dual Lamp T5HO 1x24w 6500k 1x24w Roseate 650nm @ 8 Hours a Day Filter: Eheim Ecco 2234 Heater: Hydor 200w ETH C02: 5lb Pressurized Tank Milwaukee MA-957 Regulator Ceramic Glass Nano diffuser Cal Aqua Labs Double Drop Checker Ferts: Dry Fertilizers using Estimative Index Flora: Hemianthus callutrichoides, Pogostemon helferi, Hemianthus Micranthemoides, And what I believe is to be Rotala nanjenshan(please let me know if that is wrong) Fauna: 9x Iriantherina werneri 7x Caridina japonica 1x Pseudomugil furcata(soon to find a new home) Here are a few pictures taken very shortly after the transfer from the 50g. Dec. 15, 2010 - Some shots of the Threadfins displaying in the plants. Dec. 29, 2010 - GDA starting to cover the rocks. I thinned out the HM as it had some dead matter towards the bottom as it was all clumped together when I bought it. I also added a black background and changed out the diffuser to a 3 dollar cheapo nano one from ebay and am actually getting finer bubbles then I did with the expensive one I was running on the 50g. Jan. 04, 2011 - Starting to get some algae growth in the HC. My furcata rainbow died out of nowhere 2 days ago. I didn't really like him anyways. He was kind of a bully. LOL. I decided to then go and get 6 more threadfins! Yay! I did a water change today and took a couple pics.... The HM isn't growing as fast as I thought it would. Jan. 09, 2011 The Helferi is lookin good. Can you believe I got all that for just 10 bucks? I even threw about half of it out when i planted. It was in a tissue cultured aqua 'tub' from Aquaflora Nurseries here in Canada. Can anyone ID the plant in the back left corner for me? Enjoy! I plan on updating this every week with water changes.
  6. I would imagine it is quite a big deal in Thailand and gambling goes right along side it. I watched a traveling show once where they went to Indonesia and did illegal cricket fighting and gambling. It was quite serious lol. Do you think cricket fighting is wrong because they are ugly bugs? Just curious of your opinions...
  7. DAYUM that's one good lookin baby daddy. He doesn't look like the kids maybe you should take him on Maury?
  8. Dry fertilizers are by far the cheapest way to go! But like jvision said I wouldn't recommend using much ferts. You have very low light and no CO2. If anything I would buy a comprehensive fertilizer like Seachem Flourish or API's Leaf Zone.
  9. Thanks for the offer Blake. They are really nice plants but I think it will look funny in my tank since all of the plants are such small leafs and that one has really big ones. It will take away from the size illusion I think. However, I would love to get some of your moss from you if you ever trim that up!
  10. I actually passed by there a couple days ago and it doesn't look open yet. Right on 111 ave right?
  11. Thanks for the compliments! BFM - It's the 3 dollar knockoff one from ebay. It works great. I would highly recommend getting one as long as you don't mind the mist in the tank! Sierra - That's the one! The pictures sure don't do them any justice, neither do my photography abilities or camera LOL. Good luck on the restart of your tank! I still need I think 1 or maybe even 3 more bunches of plants in there. Anyone have any smaller leafed stem plants they hook up some clippings?
  12. Here are a coupe shots of my 20g Planted. Last year I ran a 50g but decided to downgrade to the 20 since I am going to be moving again soon and moving large tanks is a PITA! This way I can do it all by myself and not have to pester a friend to help me LOL. The only things I really saved from the 50g was the HC and the fauna. I started it on the first or second week of December. Here is the beginning: And here is the current state taken last Sunday. Notice the rocks used to be grey? LOL. I actually like it now looks much more natural. And here are some random pics: The threadfin rainbows. Displaying to eachother. Helferi
  13. Forgive my n00bness but... How do I start a Member Journal? When I go to that section I do not have the option to create a new thread. Thanks.. GB
  14. Aquariumfertilzier.com and aquafloranurseries.com both ship dry KNO3 to Canada.
  15. Very nice tank. Care to post the tank specs as far as equipment goes? What is the plant with the red underside? And I really like your fissidens and mosses. Where did you get the fissidens I have been wanting some forever! And what kind of moss is the low sitting one to the bottom right of the fissidens?
  16. Sorry to hear about your losses. Hopefully the ram died of old age and water quality is not the culprit!
  17. The comment I made was not directed at you ubr0ke or anyone specifically. I was simply noting how one site says (insert algae type here) is caused by x and one site says it is caused by y and one site says it is caused by z. I have yet to see raw data concluding what exactly causes BBA or GDA or whatever it may be.
  18. Algae is tricky business. I always wonder how much of the information about it we read on the internet is fact based on controlled experiments. To me it seems that majority of it is just regurgitated information that someone posted that someone read somewhere that someone has re posted. Do we really know the exact cause of BBA? or GDA or other algaes for that matter?
  19. Anyone ever considered the possibility of using krylon fusion spray paint? I have read several places that it is safe for use under water if you let it cure for 10-14 days.
  20. Hi cdot. I see you have been bitten by the planted tank bug! It looks like you have already done most of your research which is great! I'm not too sure about renting the CO2 canister so I can't answer that question. So far you have the right idea. I would empty the tank. Get the hardscape setup the way you would like and then add plants. The only risk of this is that you might lose your biological filtration and will have to cycle the tank again. If you can get rid of the JD and redo the tank in the matter of a day you should be fine as long as you keep your filter media. If you do decide to go with a smaller carpeting plant I would hold off on the cory's until it is carpeted as they can dig up little plants like HC and UG. Otherwise it sounds like you have a great setup in mind and you are on the right track. Have you thought about what you are going to use for ferts?
  21. Along with adding CO2 I would use excel. When I had a bba problem last year I added a bunch of stem plants, upped the co2 and double dosed excel and voila... it slowly disappeared over the course of a couple weeks.
  22. Interesting..... I have the same fixture but my plants are still pretty short so I haven't experienced this. I was thinking of adding a coralife T5 NO but I have read some horrible things about them. Maybe I will add another AquaticLife and just run 3 bulbs .
  23. What kind of light are you using? I use a 2x24in t5h0 on my 20 gal and I am getting great results!
