  1. Lots of good advice here. Once I get something set up I will make sure and post pictures to compare!!
  2. Hey, every time I look at a classified add for aquarium equipment all the larger tanks seem to come with sliding glass covers or something similar. Recently I decided I wanted to switch my canopy's out on my two 50g's and switch over to some T8 shop lights. Where do I get these sliding glass covers? What can I expect to pay? Thanks!
  3. I can't offer any advice on the topic but I absolutely LOVE exotic plecos like these and wish you the best!
  4. Okay thanks everyone. It's pretty much setup now!
  5. Ahhhh alrighty, so that setup worked fine for you then? I'm really interested in putting a sump setup together but I just am not willing to empty the tank to install an overflow.
  6. Thanks for the response. I'm going to solve the overflow in case of power outage problem by simply drilling a whole in the out-take about an inch below the water line, so if the power goes out the pressure inside the syphon will be broke once the tank drops by an inch or so. Otherwise there's no reason to use an overflow?
  7. Hey all, I'm looking into putting a sump in under my 50g and I just have a question here.. Do I have to use an overflow? Or can I just put the syphon right into the tank and drop it straight down to the sump? So usually it goes Main Tank ==> Overflow ==> Syphon ==> Sump ==> Pump ==> Main Tank. Can I just drop the overflow from this setup?
  8. Awesome! Was it a salt or fresh setup? Hope you get setup soon and provide us with some pics
  9. Wow lots of interesting stuff here. I will have to really delve into it and see if it's completely illegal or what the deal is. Of course I wouldn't dream of keeping a native tank if it was illegal but it's still a shame. But yeah, just in response to the comment about room temperature being too warm: if I were to have a native tank (if it was legal) I would keep it in the garage where it stays cool year-round.
  10. Welcome! Get some pictures up!!
  11. Hey all, was just wondering if anyone has a native fish tank with Pike, Pickerel, Perch, or Trout etc.. I'm thinking of getting a large tank and starting a Perch tank and I'm just curious to see what's out there. Additionally, anyone know where you can buy native fish or whether or not it's legal to "collect" them?
  12. I've been wanting to do a styrofoam DIY background of my own for the longest time, just can't scrape myself off the couch after work to do it. Let's see some pics!
  13. So I've had plans to hit up the auction on Sunday for months now and now my little girl has come down with strep throat... BOOM, can't make it. Anybody else have things totally out of their control stopping them from going last second? Come on guys (and gals), make me feel better!
  14. Love the rays! Also after looking at some of your other vids: gorgeous Discus!
  15. Awesome, there's a ton of ray keepers on MFK so I'm happy you checked it out. Any update pics?
  16. Possibly go to another of the places in town and see if they have a more robust looking Severum of a similar size? He may perk up just seeing another of his kind fully colored up and full of confidence. EDIT: Additionally I haven't seen him eat just yet but I only got him yesterday, hopefully he will feed soon. I've tried blood worms, shrimp pellets, some lettuce.. I will try some other items as well.
  17. From what I've read, most of the people on monsterfishkeepers.com end up having to medicate the ray and pull it out. If it's shallow enough it may press out on it's own but I wouldn't count on it.
  18. Hey all, I was just browsing through one of my LFS today and noticed a tank with a couple Severum (pretty beat-up) and a breeding pair of convicts. Naturally the Convicts were beating the snot out of the Severum (all fish were about 3" long) but there was one Severum that was about 1.5-2" that had great looking fins and seemed to be doing a good job of staying out of the Convicts way. Additionally, all the Severum's in the tank were on sale for 5$ each due to the fact that they were getting beat on a little bit. I jumped on the smaller Severum and I plopped him into my grow-out tank with a couple 1"-2" Firemouths and Convicts. The Severum is easily the largest fish in the tank but I'm not too worried considering their (supposedly) mild disposition. He's incredibly washed out from his traumatic time at the pet shop so I'm just curious if you guys think I should find him his own spot until he gets a little confidence back or that he'll be fine where he is? Also, any tips on Severum? I just want this poor guy to get his color back, he's incredibly washed out but he's got no visible injuries of any kind. Thanks and sorry for the wall(s) of text.
  19. +1. I'm going to have to take a little closer look in my LFS!

    My 120g long

Looks really cool, I love Archerfish!
  21. It's funny how breeding works sometimes. I have a tank full of guppies (about 10 females and 5 males) heavily planted for cover for the babies, haven't seen ANY yet. I picked up my RCS on a Friday and I had babies the following Friday without doing anything other than dumping them in the water (or somewhere around that timeline). Sorry about the partial hijack.
  22. Sorry to hijack a bit here but is it just fish at these auctions or what? I'd be more inclined to go if I knew there would be aquatic plants and miscellaneous aquatic items as well.
  23. Alrighty, thanks for the heads-up and the information. Now to my diy co2!
  24. Alright, I'm going to hit my LFS tomorrow and pick-up some Flourish (or whatever they have) and report back. I will take some pictures, post them up before I use the Flourish, then I'll post more in about a week. Will notice almost immediate results? Seems to me the plants should perk up right away. EDIT: I think I'm also going to do a DIY co2 system when I start dosing Flourish and see what kind of crazy growth I can get from there!
