  1. This morning Lyder told me that I couldn't have my beloved planted tank just yet because last night he bought 6 baby leo's and needed the tank space. :P Thankfully, it was a joke, that brat.
  2. That's pretty cool, I really like it's colors. It's nice you get to keep it guilt free and do some studying of it. :P
  3. I'm happy to be with a fish geek, because when we get the opportunity to build a house, that's much we plan our basement to look like.
  4. Nice lobster. I have one too, it very rarely eats fish or shrimp. Although this might be where my emerald crabs went... Lol I was talking to some friends from school and telling them about the lobster, and I told them it was orange and purple and they were like what did you paint it? ...No... How is it orange and purple then?? Lol it was pretty funny. Anyways I love mine so I hope you have fun with yours too.
  5. Lol Christian I didn't know you had so many species of bichirs. I'm coming over to see them all one day! Anyways I have: 2 dwarf puffers 3 leo stingrays 2 motoro stingrays 2 ornate bichirs 1 senegal bichir 1 ropefish 1 ghostknife 2 electric blue crayfish (if those are oddballs, I suppose amano shrimp too if those are oddballs as well)
  6. We've been thinking about it. Our male is beating the crap out of our little not yet ready to breed female, and I kind of want a another big female in there to take some of the abuse. Give the little female a break.
  7. This could be why I've never had any luck with anything but MTS, which I'll still have in there for the gravel. Maybe I'll give other snails another try, perhaps with all the plants some can survive. And maybe I'll go with cherries then. I once heard that if you keep different species of shrimp in the same tank they'll outcompete eachother until only one species is left, so does this mean I'll have to leave out the amanos?
  8. I was thinking fry food. I'll probably have MTS in the tank, I've never had any luck with any other kind of snail, but MTS seem to thrive. Would the adult puffers be able to eat the adult cherries?
  9. Ok so I'm setting up a 90 gallon planted tank, which will house a bunch of shrimp and hopefully about 30 dwarf puffers, providing they all survive, the ones I've been buying from petsmart don't seem to make it. That might be because the old male has been a lone fish for a long time, I suspect he may slowly be killing anyone else I try to add, or maybe petsmart doesn't have good dwarf puffers. Anyways, it's my hope that maybe the puffers will breed. But if they breed I won't have the time or space to dig out the eggs and raise them in their own little tank and make sure everyone has enough food and that. So I'm wondering if there's any non-parasitic little invert that could possibly establish a colony in a heavily planted tank? That way maybe the potential little puffers will be able to find food and make it to adulthood.
  10. From what I hear they're hard to take care of. I had small freshwater clams for awhile, everyone said they wouldn't last, and they didn't. I think feeding them is probably the issue. Anyways if you want to try it just keep an eye on them so you know what they usually look like when they're alive and that, because big rotting mussels in the aquarium is bad.
  11. Yeah I think that's a good idea, it's especially nice to have the list of clubs.
  12. Well if she's not being bullied why not hang on to her for awhile longer? Something a little closer might come up, you never know.
  13. Pots tend to restrict root growth, so you should remove them. You should have substrate deep enough for the roots to get a good hold in, unless you go with plants that grow on a rhizome. Those you just attach to rocks or driftwood (fishing line works good) and they'll eventually attach themselves, I think they look really nice. www.plantgeek.net has some good info on different types of plants, where to plant them and how much light they need. I'd stick with low light plants. Oh right and I don't disinfect my plants, but I don't worry about hitchhikers, I figure if it's anything other than snails it'll likely be eaten. I'm not sure how you'd disinfect them if you do decide you want to though.
  14. So what I think is funny about this story is that I tried keeping dragonfly larvae alive but it just never worked for me, they'd always die after a week or so. That sucks it ate all your fry though, I'm sorry to hear it.
  15. Lol I love green brittle stars, I have one and it's one of my favorite creatures in the tank. Everything's looking great.
  16. Yeah it sucks when that happens. Once when I did my water change I decided to clean the sponge, with RO water though, seeing how I hadn't done it in about 8 months. The next morning all the fish were dead, it sucked. I hope you can get it under control though and don't have any losses.
  17. My sun coral only opens at night, which makes them a pain to feed because we have to wait until like 11. Your's are looking really gorgeous Connie.
  18. Well tragedy has struck and my beloved shamefaced crab kicked it. I'm puzzled though because he was eating pieces of frozen shrimp a couple times a day and seemed fine. He was also depleting the snail population in his spare time so I don't think food was an issue, but could it have been? Also he was missing 2 legs, did he maybe get picked on to death? I thought the fish mostly ignored him, except the blue face angel who sometimes hovered over him but I never saw any biting going on. I want to get another one so any hints on what could have gone wrong would be great, I don't want to keep killing them.
  19. That's awesome. I'd love to have one one day.
  20. Yeah that's not too bad. But my pleco killed my peacock eel so I wouldn't try it. The eel might be ok with gravel though, I'm not sure, if it has a cave it might choose to hide in there instead of trying to bury itself.
  21. Ok so I bought a shamefaced crab (totally impulse) but I don't really know much about them, and am having trouble finding anything about them. I did read that they eat snails, so far I see no dent in my snail population though, of course I've only had him for a couple days. Besides my big snails I have a bunch of little tiny snails (hundreds) does anyone know if he'll go for the big ones or the little ones when and if he does decide to go for the snails? Also does anyone know what I can feed him? I've tried chunks of shrimp but he's really timid and runs away when I try to get close to him, and I'm worried he won't get any food. And last of all does anyone know how big these guys get? Mine is already about 2.5 inches across.
  22. Cool, those are one of my favorite fish, very pretty.
