I also think you will like the sand better. Changed a couple of mine over a while back and I think that is all I will use from now on. Good luck with your tank, and keep us updated. -
Be careful as one of mine actually jumped out of the tank a while back. Never thought of plecos as jumpers. I think it's normal though for them to suddenly go darting to to top, mine also did it.

Personally I would stick with the salt and heat cure. Meds are sometimes quite harmful to certain types of fish.
