  1. The only sponsor in Edmonton that might have it would be Nature's Corner. If he dose not have it he will eather get it for you or send you to someone who can.
  2. Having the water drain from the top and from the bottom both have there advantages and disadvantages. From the bottom you will get more gunk ( I can't remember the name of the stuff for the life of me right now) and stuff off the bottom of the tank. But if you have little to no surface agitation you will get a scum build up on the top of your tank. You can fight this by adding a spray bar that breaks the waters surface tensions. From the top you can end up with a larger build up gunk on the bottom of your tank but you will not need to have the spray bar on the top of your tank. You can use the spray bar across the bottom the kick up the gunk and it will get to the over flow box. Remember that any lines the run in from the bottom of the tank to the sump will have to have a siphon brake or you will drain the tank. Also if wanted to install the 1/3 drain for water changes, I would but a bulk head at the bottom of your sump that you can hook a hose up to and run the water to a toilet that way it will clean out the bottom of your sump as you do your water change. You can also fit the end of your hose so that you can hook it up and re fill your sump after you are done draining it.
  3. If the member ship of the board wants to do an Auction, how about a summer auction, oranized by the members with rules simaler to the Edmonton and Calgary auctions. If we do it in the summer then it will not be "hurting" the 3 clubs in Alberta and will help us all out. We could even do it in Red Deer so it is more central for most members.
  4. You do not need a pond liner to be able to keep gold fish. you can drain the pond and line it with cleaned crushed rock to keep the dirt from getting in the water. You will need some type of filter and pump. look for a pump that will cycle the pont around 5 time per hour and a filter rated for duble the ponds size. As for a net it is not required but it will not hurt any thing. To be able to over winter the fish in the pond it needs to be deep, like 36" or something. A trough heater will help but that is a lot of water, you will also neet to curculate the water through out the winter to keep the O2 up in the pond. Go to Natures Corner or PM them on here with what you want to do and they can set you up with the best equipment.
  5. The best thing that you can do for the exotics and gold fish is sorce a good supplier with good prices and do custom orders. Most suppliers will have the bread and butter fish so the minimum will not be hard to reach.
  6. I thonk it can be sort of done, but it needs to be on a large scale and 100% sealed. If it is not sealed it will be an opened system and will need you to add stuff. Mostly water. You would have to have a full food chain to have it be a closed system and the food chain will need to be able to support it self at all levels. Any thing that can reproduce on a large and fast scale will be your best bet for every thing but you top predator.
  7. WOW that is looking good, I cant wait to see it full of water and fish.
  8. Wow that is looking great. You have a lot of dedication to see this through to the end. I am not sure if you have found your sump yet, But have you thought of doing a ply-wood sump? Also here is a video of of some plumbing that I thought might help you. I looked it up before I got the end of the thread so it might be too late but, I might as well post it since I looked it up. Monster fish rescure 800 gallon rebuild
  9. I think you can get Krylon in paint on form and Canadian Tire, the same stuff just paint it on.
  10. As for materials you can use cement, spray foam, epoxy, and acrylic. There are many other things that I sure you can use but these seem to be the most comon.
  11. Looking good can't wait to see it done. Are you going to paint the back of your tank?
  12. Stop adding ammonia if you still are is the first and most important thing. You Should da a water change to get he levles down a little, not so much the ammonia but the nitrate. If you dont see the ammonia levle go down within a week then I would scrub every thing and try again.
  13. Sorry to hear of you losses.
  14. I have heard that BN plecos are hit and miss. They will need a very good spot to hide from the rays though.
  15. The algea eating dwarf plecos, Rams, some corrys and most tetras are a good choise for that type of enviroment. Natures Corner can go through there stock with you and help you pick out the best fish. Also some of the staff at Big Al's have experiance with that sort of thing, ( I think the people I am thinking still work there but they only worked weekdays before I left the city so don't quote me on it, lol). THe best thing to know before you pick out the fish is the size of the tank. SOme of the larger fish are easy to care for but need to have very large tanks (ie Goldfish, and Oscars). Just remember that if you want fish for algea control that the Comon Plecos are not that good at it. Go for the Bristlenose Plecos or a small school of Ottos. Sorry for the rant, just wanted to through in my 2 cents.
  16. With what you have right now up the number of your rummy nose to around 15.
  17. Here is a link to all the L numbers, go through the list an pick out about 10 we can help you from there. http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/ Just remember that once you get past the the 10 most comon plecos in the stores that you start to pay an arm and a leg for them.
  18. If you are not keeping plants or coral then it is over kill.
  19. Nice find, I know that there are always lots of people looking for white sand. Cant wait for pics.
  20. the polyurea is going to over lap the glass buy .5'' so unless water can get past polyurea and silicone it wont leak It might be me not sleeping for the last 36 or so hours, but I don't get it. is the coating going over the glass? Polyurea is a paint so when you fill the tank there is a good chance that the paint will crack. Check out fishguys re build on monster fish keepers, he has some good info.
  21. I would want to make sure that the tank is sealed befoe you put the glass in, If there is a small area that water can get in between the wood and the glass you are going to have a very large mess to clean up.
  22. As far as I know you can cook charcoal and get about half of the life back but not just rinse and reuse.

I think that you can get rolls of cork at hobby stores, and maybe the large craft stores. If you find some post pics I want to see this in action.
