  1. I think the you tube guy "Dustins Fish Tank" endorses that pump (or one very similar to it). Yup its that one. https://youtu.be/WqdcMhx_BrY
  2. I'm attempting my first fishless cycle in my 120 gallon tank. I have a Fluval 205 + 406 hooked up with about... 30lbs of expanded clay media in my attached aquaponics system. Dont know if that was even relevant information. The Question: Do you know if in the aquarium, the Nitrogen in the NH4+ (my pH is 8.3 so its probably more NH3) molecules get converted 1:1 into NO3- in the end? I added my first dose of (5ppm) NH4OH last night and i'm curious to know if i'm gonna get 5ppm of NO3- when the NH4 is zero. Thanks P.S. Water is from the tap in South Calgary, treated with Prime.
  3. Is there any petroleum exploration in your area? I know this is a hot button issue, but some nearby hydraulic fracturing or other exploration could have released (even in very small amounts) something into your well? The Severums may be more sensitive than the geos? Sorry about your losses Andrew
  4. Because the redness is not bilaterally symmetrical, I would have to agree that it's a blood / clotting issue. Any updates on this fish?
  5. This looks like bored humans at the cost of natures beauty. I obviously think this is sad :-(
  6. The Aqueons are nice because they come with a plastic bumper on the end of the heater, so between that and the suction cups/mounting device, your not gonna get that destructive glass on glass contact. They also have lifetime warranties on their heaters, so hopefully you can buy just one, and they are available everywhere.
  7. Good morning to everyone, i'm a new guy with this being my first post. I have been in the hobby for years with Livebearers, and aquaponics, but I sold my smaller aquariums and bought a 120 gallon and i'm ready for a new challenge. With my university and research taking up more and more of my time I wanted to get down to one gorgeous tank. My wife (and I) would like to create a beautiful Rainbowfish aquarium. Were not sure which of the Melanotaenia genus yet, but were exited to explore the different classifications and connect with locals. With this new adventure comes new challenges and this is where I will find great pleasure in these forums. Were are looking to network with individuals who are sickened by the use and abuse of nature through mass fish farming, and creating antibiotic resistance animals that are suffering. If this irresponsibility keeps up, we humans will soon have the same fate as the farmed fish with resistance strains of bacteria wiping out large populations.... I probably should not rant on my first post. Sorry about that. I love the idea of buying fish locally, from people who have bred and raised fish with the reverence that nature deserves. Thanks for your time Andrew (FunkSolid)
