  1. Can't answer your question Leon, but I ended up getting 1" thick pieces at Home Depot. Can't recall seeing pieces as thin as you're looking for.
  2. Nice! Those fry sure are easy to spot on the white substrate.
  3. There's no wiggle in the stand itself when I do that. The whole thing moves a little, but that's because it's sitting on thick carpet and there's really no weight holding it down yet. That would happen even if the stand had plywood on all sides, at least until I get some water in the tanks. I finished the wood itself with a few coats of Verathane.
  4. I finished the stand a week or two ago, but didn't get it in the room with the tanks till just recently. Here is a picture of the stand with tanks. Now comes the fun part!
  5. Great looking fish! The tank looks great as well, it'll look even better once you have the sand in
  6. It stands for Breeder Award Program. I'm not too familiar with the details however. There is some information about it on the ACE website. BAP on ACE
  7. Cool Looks like you had a lot of fun down there Gina!
  8. Welcome to AA  and Welcome to our great province!
  9. Thanks everyone. I'll probably end up getting the harder styrofoam when I stop by Home Depot tommorow. The rack is for 2 tanks and is level, but the peice of plywood (top and bottom as they were each from the same piece) has a slight bulge in the middle (ie: it is actually a tiny bit thicker). It's hardly noticeable, but I would think the hard pink stuff should still compensate for that so that the tanks sit flat all around it's bottom edges... They are each 75 gallon tanks.
  10. Just wondering which type of styrofoam is best to put underneath tanks. I noticed at Home Depot they had some pink hard looking stryfoam, and there was also a "softer/lighter weight" looking styrofoam made from tiny pellets. I'm thinking the harder styrofoam is the way to go... Any recommendations. Thanks Nelson
  11. Nice fish as usual Gina. Is that Moori one of the ones you got from me? I know you had some before as well... Is that leleupi in the tank with your Cyps? In terms of the camera, I'm sure it's mainly a matter of getting used to it.
  12. Thanks for the tips everyone. I'll end up putting on a few coats of verathane. Didn't know there was a latex based verathane, sounds like a good idea! As for the tank on the bottom, I thought it might be too low, but I did want to stack two high and have 14" clearance above the bottom tank and the shelf above it. Considering that and the fact that the top of the higher tank will be close to 6 feet made me decide to put the bottom tank fairly low.
  13. Looks very nice. What size tank is that for?
  14. I don't plan on painting it, but may change my mind. I know they're only 2X6s so aren't the most attractive material, but if anything I was thinking of putting some verathane on them. That should help keep them fairly water resistent.
  15. Thanks for the feedback Nick. That's the answer I was hoping for. As for the fish I plan on keeping I was thinking something like Saulosi, Polits and or Demasonis... Not sure yet. I've got the tanks already, they were a last minute purchase
  16. I've put together some plans for a tank rack that will hold 2 75 gallon tanks and since I have not built a tank rack (or stand for that matter) before, thought some other opinions could be helpful. It would be made out of 2X6s. In addition to what is shown on the diagrams I was thinking of some corner braces under the top shelf to add strength and maybe 2 more on the bottom shelf in the back. View from the front: Views from the side and of the shelf construction from the top which will be 2X6s on end. The vertical 2X6s will have sections cut out of them to allow the shelf to be inset into the legs, and I would also be adding plywood on each shelf. Let me know what you think. Thanks
  17. He looks great! I really like the great colours of some of the Dwarf angels. Doesn't bother your corals at all?
  18. To add to what others are saying about Digital SLR cameras like the Canon Rebel and Rebel XTi, etc. They can be very simple to use for the novice if you stick to the automatic settings. In the auto settings it sets the shutter speed and aperture for you. The focus and shutter lag is also much better than any Point and Shoot camera I've used. That being said if you have a Digital SLR you should really take the time to use it well and learn about it's different features. However if you don't have as much money to spend, or want a camera with 10X zoom, but don't want to shell out the extra cash for another lense to add to you DSLR, a point and shoot camera may be for you. Hope that helps.
  19. Looks great Matt! Be sure to update us with more pictures once you start putting stuff in!
  20. Thanks everyone! He (if it's a he...) is kept with 2 False clownfish, 2 PJ Cardinalfish, 1 Goby and 1 Striped Damsel. He's about 3" long (4" with the tail) and the biggest fish in the tank. As of yet though I haven't seen any predatory behaviour, hasn't even gone after my cleaner shrimp. Although his mouth is sure big when fully open I think the fish would be too big for him, although I can't say that about the cleaner shrimp. As for the shot, I know the Live Rock is blown, but it's only about 4" from the front glass so not the ideal tank for photography. I'll have to try and catch this guy in some open water so that I don't need to worry about the background. Nelson
  21. Nice! The JD looks healthy! I wonder how that crazy blue colour looks under blacklighting?
  22. Ok, I finally took some pictures of my new Dwarf Lionfish. None of them turned out that well, but this was the best, and with some touching up to remove the spots from the dirty glass here it is:
  23. If I'm not mistaken I think that might be what they call a "Calico" Convict. I've seen pictures of similar fish before and I have not heard of them being a cross...
  24. Great looking fish! Not what I was expecting though. I read "fossie" and was thinking "Fozzie"
