fatpuffer
My friend and I decided to build a tank stand. Initially, it was supposed to be just a simple "ghetto" stand with 2x4's but he is a carpenter/cabinet maker and decided to build the whole thing with one sheet of birch plywood. Took about 5 hours with him teaching me how to use the table saw, nail gun, miter saw, etc. I dont know anything about woodworking at all so he was kind enough to teach me the basics. Here are some photos of the finished product. inside: He enjoyed making it so we will be making one stand and canopy for his future 45 gallon. He said he may be able to do some more stand too so if you know exactly what you want. Js Edited December 31, 2006 by fatpuffer

williewonka
So.. did you have much of a problem leveling the cardboard base? And , is it going to be strong enough to hold the tank and stand??? -roll- -roll- It is a nice looking stand... Fred

snaggle
Looks great, what size of ply-wood did you use? Brad
Sam Chicklets
Very nice indeed. Did you just stain it or varathane it as well?
fatpuffer
I dont know what size...it was one sheet of plywood from timber mart. I used a wood finish that stain and seals. I will have to look up if that is sufficient. Jonah
Sam Chicklets
Looks great, what size of ply-wood did you use? Most common thickness for hard wood plywood is either 18mm or 3/4" depending on the manufacturer. And for the small diff in price between 1/2 and 3/4 your best to go with the latter. Usualy only a couple of bucks per sheet.
