canucklehead
I'm no eartheater expert but I think they get to 6-7" but from my experience geos grow pretty slow, I would think sinking pellets and maybe mysis shrimp would be a good diet, very cool looking Geos breeding The link above has some cool photos Edited January 24, 2007 by canucklehead
dcookcan
Any info is greatly appreciated regardin geophagus tapajo. Another awesome geo. I just tried to get some WC red heads from Spencer Jack, but he just ran out before I ordered. Apparently, there is a difference in the maximum size between the orange head and the red head. The orange head will apparently reach 10" but the red head only 6". Here are some pictures of the orange head: http://www.thecichlidgallery.com/g.tapajo.htm Some discussion: http://cichlid-forum.com/phpBB/viewtopic.p...de966fbe71201c8 A profile (that may not be correct on max size): http://cichlid-forum.com/profiles/species.php?id=
RD.
Apparently, there is a difference in the maximum size between the orange head and the red head. The orange head will apparently reach 10" but the red head only 6". Actually they are the same species, but are often incorrectly referred to as "red head". The correct name is Geophagus sp. "Tapajos Orange Head" , and are clearly referred to as such by Thomas Weidner, in his definitive book on South American Eartheaters. The max size is up to 8" for males, but 6" is probably closer to the norm. As previously stated, they are very slow growers.
jvision
I have a group of 6. They are enjoying NLS Cichlid and the odd portion of whiteworms. I scooped mine up from Spencer Jack. He said that in the wild, they normally get to 6", but can get to 8" in captivity.... less competition, I guess.
mitsukuni
I finally picked one up this week. Pretty small, but nice coloring so far. He likes to follow my g.surinamensis around the tank like a puppy, as they both sift the sand... Very similar coloration at 2-2.5" to the surinam, with the biggest difference being the light vertical barring on the tapajos... I think I'm going to keep these geos as individuals for now, and try to put together a breeding tank of redhumps. A LFS in NE Calgary still has a dozen or so in stock... nice fish!
