I'm looking for info on these little guys. Who has had success with them? How did you do it? What were your water perameters? ETC Any info would be appreciated. Thanx

I have now had 6 batches of fry, the first 4 were practice fry and now these last 2 the fry have lasted about 2 weeks (until the male decided he wanted to breed again).

I have a trio in my tank, and the male is breeding with both females, so I currently have wigglers with one and 10 day old fry with the other.

I will get back to you with parameters tonight, but I am not doing anything unusual.

I have only had 2 batches.

I have done nothing special at all.

I can post params later.

Just curious kevin. how many on average fry do you get.

I have read to many places that on average they get 20-50 fry

And when i moved my first batch i stopped counting at 200..

Thanks

Jen

I get around 50 fry per time - the eggs are really large for the size of the females and the fry are about the same size as some larger SA cichlids that I have bred when they go to free swimming.

Is it possible this is just different blood lines? My HRPs are the same color blue as the Alberta Aquatic border color that splits each post and they are from the Jeff Rapps order. This blue is much more intense than what I have seen in some of the other orders.

Thanks kevin.

I just found it very strange.

Their eggs are incredibly tiny too.

I just wanted to know what others had.

My female is incredibly colorful blue/white and black is really sharp.

The male is pretty dull just tinge light blue on the fins and over him.

one more question if i want the new batch to live, i have on average 2 weeks to move them until they start again and then eat them?

Sorry for hijacking this post . :D but it should be useful to you when you breed yours.

My experience with new world cichlids is that they take time to learn to be good parents, this has been the case with the HRPs as well. My experience to date is that they have been very good parents for 2 weeks and then... I have read on the internet that this is others experience as well. There are some cichlids that will take care of their fry for a long time, but my experience with the HRPs is that they should be split up.

As for feeding the fry I am finding that they really like to graze on the flora in my planted tank, but if I were to seperate them I would feed BBS.

i would like to think most lfs nowadays carry the con/hrp cross, similar to the midas/rd mutts everywhere.

These ones came from Spencer Jack when he was in Edmonton so I don't think they would be hybrid
