Golfnut
My parents tank has a glass center brace, but it just came apart. What's the best way to fix this? Remove old silicone and just apply some new stuff clamp it until it dries? Or should I remove the entire center brace, clean and reattach both sides of the brace? Thanks for your time. bosshog
I'd remove the entire thing. Clean it up and re-install it. If one side has failed the other may be about too. It wouldn't be much more trouble to do both rather than one. It will also give some piece of mind. IMO. Brad
jvision
For the brace to work properly, you should probably drain the tank and let the silcon set for 24 hr before refilling it.
Zoban
Agreed. Drain at least half way if not all. Remove entire brace and clean surfaces. Resilicone and allow ample dry/cure time.
Golfnut
Sounds good... I'll let you know how it goes...
Sam Chicklets
I would remove it completely clean it and cleat it as well for extra strength. I have found that but joints on center struts are not very strong, the cleats give it shear strength as well.
Trooper
I would suggest at least a week before filling it after repair. And why wouldn't you do both sides? Aquarium makers suggest at least a week before filling a new tank. I have tested this theory more than once, being the unpatient sole that I am.
