HOSStile
Read this Manitoba article, it gives some ways to make rain barrels mosquito free, such a few drops of dish washing liquid to reduce the surface tension of the water and the mosquito's drown. The problems with mosquito fish is that they eat all larvae good or bad and in the wild have decimated amphibian populations. For your pond I would still recommend feeder goldfish or minnows. http://www.gov.mb.ca/health/wnv/docs/mosquito_homeowners.pdf

HOSStile
They mention Aquabac in the article. Are Mosquito fish allowed in Canada?
nyb440
I agree with Hosstile. I have feeder goldfish in my pond and I've never noticed a problem with mosquitoes around the pond. How small is a "small" pond? The seven 4-6" goldfish have done well in my 150 gallon pond over the past 7 seasons.

blainep
What kind of mosquito fish are you looking for ? Gambusia or Heterandria formosa. I don't have any Gambusia but I do have a few H. formosa.
Toirtis
They mention Aquabac in the article. And so they should...it works very well. Are Mosquito fish allowed in Canada? Federally, but individual provinces can have more restrictive laws. They are, as you may be aware, one of the established, invasive exotic species that has taken over the Cave & Basin drainage marsh in Banff.
