Tanker
Cynotilapia afra "cobue" gets my vote, as well. http://images.google.ca/images?hl=en&q...mages&gbv=

patrick
We are a couple of guys trying to solve this on a Swedish forum. Seems like most of them thinks it's a Labidochromis sp. "hongi" or Labidochromis sp. "mbamba".
Pop Eye
i thought it was a mbamba when i first looked for the hongi is close too.. not to sure though
lukeS
Hongi
RDFISHGUY
Stripe pattern is too narrow and too numerous to be a hongi at least labidochromis . This fish is likely a variant of cynotilapia afra in my opinion.
geoff
I say Labidochromis sp. "mbamba
African_Fever
I'd guess Lab. 'mbamba', with it possibly being a cross between that and Lab. hongi. Definitely has features of both, though a bit darker/more purplish blue like my old mbamba used to have.
kem
It's a Labidochromis sp. "mbamba". The "hongi" has a larger yellow to red patch extending to the dorsal fin, also the female and dominated male of the hongi adopt a lighter colour than the mbamba (2nd picture). ps: I bred both species back in Fredericton). Trooper
Labidochromis sp. "Hongi" Isl.. Just a poor specimen " sorry "
dunl
When it comes down to poor specimens, or hybrids of two similar species like mbamba and hongi, it becomes impossible to tell. I would say it looks more like a L. mbamba than hongi, with the most likely scenario that they were interbred sometime a few generations back. Very common, as some pet stores will have a tank of mbamba, get in a shipment of hongi by mistake, and they get mixed by an unknowing employee. What exactly is it? A poor specimen, probably more mbamba blood than hongi.
