timbruun
Just noticed this the other day. He isn't eating much either. Well, not coming for food like he used to. Nobody else has it just him. Let me know what it is and what I can do please. Thanks in advance.
randy
It looks like an open wound (quite deep) I would guess that it may have got caught under a sharp rock. If it were mine, I would move it to a quarantine tank, and keep an eye on it for infection. If you leave it in the main tank insure you water parameters are spot on and keep ane eye on it for infection.
timbruun
That's more what I was hoping for I guess. Better a wound than a disease. Double checking water parameters as I type this. Should be all really good since I've been doing frequent water changes to help get rid of algae.
randy
To get rid of the algae cover the tank with a blanket for 2-3 days light off, no peeking or feeding completely dark. Algae all gone.
timbruun
It's brown algae/diatoms, and it's actually going through it's course. Tank is starting to get better. I can actually see grey/black on the rocks again.

Rocks I don't know if you would want to get rid of all your algae.. :shifty: My Brichardis loved Beeding when there was a fair bit of Blue Green Alge on the rocks, I also saw the Fry grazing on this algae. timbruun
That fish actually ended up dying. I did constant water changes to keep the parameters in check. Later noticed a bigger hole in the bottom of the fish. Have no idea what caused it. It just seems weird that it would get all rocked up in such a short period when it was doing good for a while. And none of my other fish have had any problems.
jvision
It definitely looked like an injury. My guess is that he was bullied into hiding at least a few times and his attempts to get into a tight spot are what caused the injuries. IME, bullied fish don't do well even in the best of tank conditions. When they get hurt, the only cure is to get them out. I've seen this same thing happen to a few different types of cichlids and to a couple types of plecos. Once I moved the injured fish out to quaranteen, they pretty much always survived.
