Okotoks
Will very young clown or yoyo loaches remove my snail problem without bringing harm to my cherry red shrimp? I have heard from some folks that say it shouldnt be a problem, but I am still on the fence about trying it.
syno321
IME anything that can take care of a snail infestation will also take care of the young shrimp, if not the adults.
Ron
Assassin snail(s) would be a safer way to go.
Wingin' It
I suggest NOT buying loaches...they'll likely make a quick snack of your shrimp. You can try feeding less, less food = less snail production, try a snail trap, or as suggested above, assassin snails work good and don't reproduce like crazy (IME). Vallisneria
Assassin snail(s) would be a safer way to go. I agree, assassin snails will work. I put some assassins in with my cherry shrimp colony and they took care of all my snails and do great with the shrimp.
Okotoks
This sounds excellent after doing the research. Where in the Calgary area would I purchase them?
Jayba
There was a guy who usually sold them, his name is Vince0 or place an ad in the buy and sell area.
Wingin' It
Fishclubgirl also used to sell 'em...probably still does. Pisces also sells 'em...they have LOTS of 'em still. Actually, Big Al's has 'em too. Edited March 17, 2011 by Wingin' It
nanmer
I have had problems with snails in my shrimp tank. I simply used a sieve, a two cup measure with handle, and with a small screen at the bottom. I put algae wafers, and a rock, in and pick it up in the morning. The harder part is taking care of the puffers that eat them lol. You will never win over snails, you will simply stop them from taking over. Loaches, and almost anything with a mouth, can and will eat your shrimp. Most snail control will also control your shrimp!
BigWater
Try a blanched piece of zuchini placed just before you turn off light when you wake up for work pull whats left out hopefully with your snail friends on it.
