I suggested a refund... but didn't pursue the idea. There were only 3 of mine that have the spots and it didn't spread to any of my other fish.

i paid only $4 each for them... so in total there was only $12 credit or a refund available or possible.

upset... yes.

but just glad it didn't spread!

they can stay in that little tank as long as they need.

Hopefully they get better!

I'm giving them the chance too!

Edit to say:

Have the spots got any worse since you got them?

Not worse... and not any better.

I'm not giving up though!

  • 2 weeks later...

Just another update for all those who have been following this thread...

The one that i have left in the hospital tank is a female... she would be a nice female if she didn't have all of those black spots on her.

When i stopped off at home i noticed that she was holding a mouth full of eggs. There is not another fish in site... but yet she is holding.

She'll probably swallow her eggs today (or as soon as she knows they are not going to ever develope).

She had rearranged all the gravel in the tank too.

I think i may keep her and when i have a male... maybe i'll breed the 2 and see if there are any black spots with their fry...

That would tell me 2 things:

1- if it was actually genetics that caused the spots and James was lying...

or

2- its not genetic but still could be a parasite or some sorta scars...

am i wrong to do this?

Before (3 months ago):

Present (3 months later):

I see no change... what do you all see?

so after 3 months of quarantine and 2 treatments for parasites, i'm letting him go back in my tank.

i cannot/couldn't cull her...

i have ruled out parasite.

i'm leaning towards ammonia burn or something to that effect but...

i haven't ruled out genetics as i plan on breeding this female when i have a male to see what the result is.

i know this post has been long but i was wondering if anyone agree'd or disagree'd with the way i have approached this unique scenario.

thanks again for all of you help and suggestions.

This was my first order from shipping them in.

the only issues were with the rusties not anything else Hung and I ordered.

i think in total i had 4 fish affected by the black spots.

raising hell with james for $16 ($4 per fish) hardly seems worth it. I'm sure if i ever ordered from james again... i'd work out a special deal.

I'll end this thread by thanking everyone for their help with this issue, as i have learned a lot!

that was the cost of the fish that had the spots.

I bought 1 male and 2 female saulosi at $50

9 rusty's at 4 each.

shipping was over and above as well as we split shipping (hung and I).

my total bill was about 120 if i remember correct. I paid for all of it and Hung paid me back.

being that i had 4 rusties that were affected by the black spot surprise...

would 16 dollars be something to throw a fit over?

if it was the whole order... i'd be right mad.

IMO

My thought is that's not the point. If I ordered fish and they showed up like that, I would expect a replacement. They're certainly not good quality fish, plain and simple. IMO, it's not ammonia burn, and it's not something that "just showed up" in transit.

Lots of people count on customers looking at something like this as too small to throw a fit over....
