McTurtle
So I picked up a tank to go on the bottom of my 20 gallon stand... and it's not 20 gallon but 25 gallon. So It's 30" long instead of 24". If I put it on my stand there will be ~2.5" overhang on either end, width is fine. Is there any way I can set this up and not put too much stress on the tank? I was thinking maybe 2x4s or a plywood sheet... Anyone have suggestions/ experience with this?
cjerrom
cut a piece of 1/2 plywood the same size as the tank bottom and paint it black and use it as the stand for the top and you will be great.
Jayba
2x4's then plywood then place it on Styrofoam and it'll be bulletproof. You could even skip the plywood. I use 1 inch blue insulating foam to allow any variations in pressure under the tank to be balanced out. Good luck
PistolPete
Yup I'm with jay a on this, I use the pink stuff though.... Never fails.
McTurtle
Thanks! I went with the 2x4s and then foam without the plywood. I think it turned out well. I'll put up a photo, but I'm too tired tonight. Between water changes and setting up the new tank my day disappeared... 2nd tank is going to have to wait until next weekend. ckmullin
2nd tank is going to have to wait until next weekend. That's what those 5hr energy drinks are for!!!
McTurtle
I would need a case of them. Scraping the paint off is no fun.
creekbottom
WATER!!! Depending on the paint, if you let it soak it might just rub off.
McTurtle
Hmm... I'll give it a shot. The paint I scraped off the 1st one had a kind of plastic texture so I just brute forced it off with a razor blade. Can't hurt to soak the 2nd one and see how it goes. SuperGuppyGirl
Just a thought, never tried it but what about nail polish remover to remove the paint?
McTurtle
I think I'd rather use a razor blade than nail polish remover. I'd be too afraid of getting something nasty in the tank. Here's a "before" and after. (Before is actually the 2nd tank I haven't gotten to yet. ;p ) Anyone else who bought from the lady selling a fish room out of a storage unit may recognise them.
