t3ch
That's actually a good idea. There probably isn't any good way to check if the iron leaks out is there? I have clown loaches too and they are scaleless so pretty sensitive to metals
BearBarry1
I have heard there are iron test strips but no idea on accuracy or availability.
t3ch
Humm... probably better not to risk it
t3ch
Little update from what I did yesterday. I find it looks better but it's not really an improvement for territory/caves but actually a downgrade... I need to go back find some flatter stackable rocks as I can't use the 150lbs of iron/pyrite infected ones I got
WickedOdie
I like it. Are you opposed to using fake plants? Might add some depth and color to it that way.
t3ch
Since I have discovered the world of live plants I don't think I can ever go back to fake plants, but you have a point here, and although it does not show up in the picture I have planted some small plants from my planted tank in the back as a test to see if they will eat them/move them around as cichlid usually do and surprisingly enough so far so good. So yeah I agree with you plants would help add some color and depth and I may go that route if they pass my test
WickedOdie
Yeah I'd definitely go with plants, but with he nature of cichlids and uproot plants, I'd be much more inclined to use fake ones.
jvision
I've used Java fern and Anubias a lot in cichlid tanks. Check out a few of my journals for some ideas

CORVETTE
How about a fake rock back ground? might add some needed color and depth?
t3ch
Thanks Jvision i'll have a look for some inspiration Yeah for sure fake background would look amazing but that tank is really narrow i'm not sure it would make it look bigger, it's only 12 inches deep
justinlegal6
I went to the river and boiled the rocks I found and put them in my tank and they worked perfectly!! I have no clue if that is illegal or not but I guessing not! It's a easy and cheap way to go about it!
