Doc_Polit
A co-worker of mine has a Betta Splendens (not sure what variety). She was telling me that when they first brought it home it was midnight black. It has since completely lost it's black pigment and is a sickly pink/white color. Funny thing is the fish is healthy. It is sociable and still has a hearty appetite. Has anyone ever heard of anything like this? Any idea what could have caused it? I found it a little puzzling when she said she uses "filtered" water (from a water cooler) for his bowl.
neatfreak
change of color, not sure. does she use aqua salt? the best water I say is, tap water[ has minerals] with aqua plus[prime] aqua salt[enhances fish color, produces own slim coating]
oscarfan
mine was fine in filtered water as well. For some reason, people think it works best. I kept mine in a large bowl filled with bottled water.. he liked it just fine. Lived quite long too. As for the color change.. other than being upset.. i'm not sure. neatfreak
filterd water is great, but if you do keep it in a vase, the above info works. I currently have 12, I did have 24,all in vases. some old ones died,& I gave some away.
Tanker
Older bettas lose their color, I am finding... two of mine are getting long in the tooth and have started to go white. Still active and certainly no change in personality... just 'old'.
jvision
I used to breed a dark blue variety. Kept several males for many years w/o losing any color. The females however did get pailer as they got older.
