I'm told it's a way to compensate for a slightly unlevel floor. Since my floor seems to slope slightly down away from the wall I'm hoping the foam will conteract this to some degree. finaddict Posted January 12, 2006 Report Share Posted January 12, 2006 (edited) If u have lots of rocks, and weight shifts , the foam acts as an absorber. water/glass/gravel/rocks just a precauction i suppose. or floor is built by crappy builders and out of wack,,, need to level it off. RD. Posted January 13, 2006 Report Share Posted January 13, 2006 The only time you need something between tank and stand, is when the tank is flat bottomed. With a floating glass bottom (recessed bottom glass) such as All-Glass tanks, the tanks are structured to support the weight on the outer edges, and the use of foam may in fact be counter productive. No problem with a flat bottom tank, but with a floating bottom tank when the outside edges compress that 1" foam to next to nothing, the rest of the foam will be pushing up on the glass. I was hoping to avoid shimming the stand b/c that would be visible from the front (I have burber carpet - I think that's what it's called).
