The only time you need something between tank and stand, is when the tank is flat bottomed.

With a floating glass bottom (recessed bottom glass) such as All-Glass tanks, the tanks are structured to support the weight on the outer edges, and the use of foam may in fact be counter productive. If your floor is out of whack, I would consider shimming the stand, then placing the tank in the stand.

Exactly my point. No problem with a flat bottom tank, but with a floating bottom tank when the outside edges compress that 1" foam to next to nothing, the rest of the foam will be pushing up on the glass. I've yet to see an All-Glass tank with foam under it, and the manufacturer certainly doesn't recommend it.
