  1. I have found that calcium is very important to have sucess with SPS... lighting is important however a good calcium reactor or Kalkwasser stirrer really make a big difference and of course lots of water current or turnover...
  2. I think he will stay where he wants to be... if you place him somewhere else it will just move if it is undesirable .... at least that is what mine do / so far my anemoe leave my corals alone and stay where they are once they find a suitable location..
  3. I had 5 in a 20g long a few months back and there was no dent in the Ramshorn population .... maybe they just do not like the little hardshell snails / probably like pond snails
  4. For SA's I would go for Apistos with pencil fish for dither fish...
  5. I was hoping to make the meeting this last tuesday... Job commitments didnt permit me to attend I need to renew my membership and put some lots into the auction... can someone send me Michaels e-mail address to let him know I plan on putting some lots into the auction and paying for my memgership at that time. Thanks Jerry
  6. Is there a meeting this month? Where is it being held? Jerry
  7. I took a leap and started a SW tank about 9 months ago now.... all I can say is I enjoy my FW however I really really really like my SW reef tank. Cost to start up is deffinetly not cheap however with patience gathering the equipment a little at a time and having the ability of doing a little basic plumbing its really not that bad. Take it slow, read lots, etc.
  8. http://reeftools.com/news/key-chains-with-live-fish-and-turtles-terrible/
  9. You just never know what to expect at these auctions/// I was responsible for many of the spixi snails and green shrimp... infact most of those that also had the green shrimp and snails are from mine that I brought in a year or two ago now and gave away for the most part... gives me satsifaction that so many people now have them and are distributing them. I was amazed at a couple of things that happened other then that however.... I had a pair of adult GoldHeads / proven pair that are outstanding... I believe the Male is wild and the female was from some F1 or 2 fry that I purchased from a person on the forum... they nary got a bid and finally the auctioneer purchased them... Glad they found a good home in good hands. Then on the other hand many of my plants and shrimp and snails had muttiple bidders... oh well it all works out at the end.... I would like to thank all the club members that helped out with the auction and I pledge that I will lend a hand next go around.. fully intended this auction however I wasnt sure that I should be running around at the moment as I am just finnishing up with the effects of a concussion that I recieved playing racquetball a few weeks ago :chair:
  10. Entacmaea quadricolor Heteractis magnifica Stichodactyla gigantea Stichodactyla haddoni
  11. Yep / had a good time visiting.... I purchased a petricola for my Tang tank.... and some Pelia to experiment with.
  12. looks like a great sump.... way more techie then mine
  13. I have spawned 4 different types of Rainbows my favorite was the boesmani rainbow fish... Loved those fish / Looking at your pictures gives me the itch to purchase another bunch of Rainbows... on another note for those that have never seen a school of mature Rainbows if you ever go to Reddeer there is a LFS in the SW end of town that use to and I am assuming still has a large tank of mature Rainbows as does BA here in Edmonton....
  14. I have set up a new tank as well and was wondering the same however after thinking about it I decided it would not be nessesary to put in a backgroud or paint.... I purchased a wack of eco-reefer rock and a member from the forum sold me some liverock of the highest quality to mix with it / it will nearly cover the whole backside of the tank so no background is required.............just the way a reef should look in my estimation
  15. Think I am going to monitor the water evaporation for a month or two / then come up with what I will need for a top off tank to do the job for two weeks...or use a 30 gallon or 20 gallon tank for the intrum until I see what the evaporation rate is... the good thing is that there is probably more evaporation this time of the year when it is dry and the furnace is going off and on.... should test the limits
  16. No your example isnt extreme .... my sump and tank are totally open / the main tank is open for direct light that will be coming from 5-54W vho lighting for reef setup and the sump is below , open as well because it is on shelving....
  17. that is considerable / is there any problems with covering the sump?
  18. I purchased a vertex in sump skimmer rated for 100G / yes an ato... I need to do something with that for sure... I see some online run from a tuperware to the sump that apear to be adequate... will need to do some research / any suggestions? How big of an RO holding container would be good for a couple of weeks of topping off?
  19. I forgot to say that is 1500 and not one fish or coral etc in the tank yet ... just rock , sump ,skimmer, and power heads...
  20. 180... deffinetly a remorgage on the house would be in order. LOL Think I am in for about 1500 so far on my 75G :chair: :chair:
  21. great looking tank... would be even more spectacular with an inline heater and the removal of the thermometer / you have the artistic touch
  22. Interesting article thanks for posting it.
  23. Red Coral in Edmonton is run by the same person that ran Little Oceans from what I understand.
  24. they will need to be put in a shallow tank / with a few inches of water with lots of airation... put some antibacterial in the water to prevent fungus and do not feed the fry till their eggs sacks have been absorbed once they hatch... then feed several times a day with a micro food .... very fine crushed food / vinegar eels / micro worm etc.... maybe start them off with an infusoria of some type.... not sure I spelled that correctly ....
