  1. What critters call this home??
  2. I prefer sand because it seems to bring out natural behaviours in fish (sifting). That and the price was right - $11 for 50 lbs of pool filter sand (don't get play sand, the grain size is smaller and will cause nothing but headaches)
  3. The lids on my AC's stay in the box
  4. I was given a 33gal starter kit from my grandfather when I was 12 years old. Kinda came out of the blue but it was definetly a gift I will never forget. Around the age of 16 I got out of it as my priorities shifted. After I was done college I started getting the bug again and thankfully I didn't sell the tank - still have it...
  5. Good to know - thanks However a follow up - if algae has not (yet at least) been a problem - is there an issue with leaving the lights on for extended periods of time?
  6. A related question that I have after reading the responses here - why only 10-12hrs? (no hijack intended) I have absolutely no experience with planted tanks so it seems odd to me that cutting down on the window of light hours would help a plant. Is there something going on during the night (dark) that I am missing? :shifty: I am starting up a paludarium right now and currently my timer is set up for 16 hrs (low wattage I should add) - too much maybe?
  7. I have both demasoni and afra in the same tank and comparing to the photo's, I'd say they are closer to the C. afra body shape and color... I'm definately no expert tho...

I can't seem to find anything other than 48"ers that are rated 6500K
  9. It's a damn shame that the retailers out there (I think there's one in particular) are more willing to litigate than just fix (or at least address) the problems that are causing the complaints...
  10. Have seen the one's there in the past but I'll stop by for a peek on my way home... Thanks CORY
  11. This was my BIG RED - After peacefully living together with my Oscar for about a year, he finally decided he wanted lobster dinner....
  12. What variety? could you post some pics please?
  13. Honestly, I wouldn't go to all that trouble... Oscars are a very hardy fish - All that I have done when Ich starts to appear is add some salt, kick up the heater a few degrees and its gone in a few days. Your concern and reaction is understood from what I have heard about your recent losses, but that's all I do with my O's. I would think that all the stress they would be under while going through that process would outweigh the benefits... HTH
  14. Diddo - used a hacksaw to cut away the rim
  15. This is Rammy - a 12"+ gibby click to expand....
