  1. Welcome to the site! There is also the Aquarium Club of Edmonton that you may be interested in participating.
  2. I am not aware of any black brochis species. Are you sure you weren't in a jewelry store?
  3. Starting with 6 bags of rare Corydoras and some Anubias.
  4. There is also a concession that sells food and refreshments.
  5. Male bettas will flare with anything that remotely looks like it's flaring as well. This can lead to the demise of fish who are too slow to escape their attentions like male Delta tail guppies.
  6. I believe that the club is trying to support the International community in it's efforts to stop the illegal trade of endangered and CITES registered species. My theory is that they are trying to set an example to the rest of the world that it's members support the international enforcement through complete transparency in all it's activities and functions. I could be wrong.

    My Fishroom

The diadema look good, are they starting to show signs of wanting to breed yet?
  8. Bad jokes?... you?....that's hard to believe!
  9. That is a definite yes. Many years ago, when we started the auctions, we had some members ( not many)bring in boxes of fish and plants to sell in the auctions. We decided then that this was too commercial and did not want to compete with the retail stores. The retail stores have always supported the club in one way or another and we did not want to jeopardize the good relationship. We enacted this rule. If you buy a fish(es) and decide you want to change your direction, then by all means enter them in the auction. For the most part, we rely on the integrity of club members to respect and abide by the rule. I hope that this has brought clarity to what is allowed and not allowed.
  10. Still got it. About 6 blocks south of Bonnie Doon shopping center.

  11. Good one... gin = pantry remover Hmmm did I spell that incorrectly?
  12. Welcome! Wow! Myleus! What species? Can you give some of the details of the spawnings?
  13. [ For the yeast, do I just mix a bit of water with it and add to the culture? How much should I feed and how often? The amount to feed depends on the numbers of daphnia in the culture. Feed just enough dissolved yeast to make the water cloudy and then don't feed again until the water is clear ( shouldn't be more than 12-24 hours). Under feeding is OK until you get a feel for how much the culture will consume. Over feeding will kill the culture.
  14. The tetras and the plecos should be OK in the tank. The female eunotus that has spawned should be a bright yellow with black markings, the other shouldn't be as brightly colored. The second female should be removed from the tank.
  15. Thanks, those videos are fascinating!
  16. Have you cornered the shell market? :hey:
  17. Perhaps there is a small dragon hidden in your tank somewhere?.... Crouching Tiger barb?...
  18. Pretty, pretty bettas and all mine..... :smokey: Congratulations! Of course you realize that it's a fine line between being overly enthusiastic and the aquarium not being filled to the top?
  19. Have you tried culturing compost worms? Fairly easy, doesn't smell ( at least my wife has never mentioned them ), and can be very productive.
  20. Personally, although very tempted, I 've abstained from using the earthworms from the roads. The phenol slicks are too frequently seen on our streets and curbsides.
  21. I think that wingin'it hit it on the nose. Try taking some of those tetras or White Clouds from you other community tank and adding them.
  22. In nature they are known to be able to crawl overland to new water habitats. Perhaps another way nature has provided them to colonize new territory. Could be they are just doing what comes naturally!
