  1. Guppies will eat their own fry so it's possible she had fry and none survived.
  2. Dear Santa, I would like a 120g tank, with a beautiful wooden stand, a few bichers a knife fish and a husband who doesn't b!tch about how many tanks I have.
  3. It does have a backing on it. I've thought of taking if off but with the natural light in the room the algae growth might be a bit much.
  4. I have a male crowntail who won't eat. He is obsessed with flaring at his reflection in the back of the tank and won't do anything else. He completely ignores the pellets I drop in for him, even if they're right in front of him. If he does take a pellet he spits it out right away. I'm going to see if he'll eat some frozen blood worms but I don't want to always feed him those. It doesn't matter if the light in his tank is on or off, if he can see himself all he'll do is flare and swim along the back of the tank. Any suggestions?
  5. LoL - They do love the plants. I do currently have an anubias in there but it's not doing very well, there's a lot of algae. Should I give up on having plants in there altogether?
  6. That's awesome... so many different fish. I really want to go there some day... Ok, I want to go to lake Malawi more but I want to go there too.
  7. I need plants that my cichlids are less likely to eat, I have yellow labs and yellow tail acei in the tank, I've planted it twice and both times they've eaten all of the plants Anyone have any suggestions?
  8. I've been watching with a horrid fasination.... I have an irrational fear/almost phobia about sharks, I am terrified of them and I don't know why. Anyone see the one where the guy tried to kiss a nurse shark on the lips? Wow.
  9. I had a black betta once... I miss him
  10. I remembered it was auction day around 5pm
  11. Ok, thanks much. There's lots of rocks in the tank, I bet they were chasing each other around and she got a rock in the eye... ouch
  12. Superguppy- it looks very much like the third picture. It's a fungus then? Should I treat the whole tank? I have no idea if it was an injury. She seems ok otherwise and is eating now.
  13. Just got home after a very busy day and turned on the lights of my cichlid tank for the first time today. One of my yellow labs had a cottony growth coming off of her eye, it looked like a mushroom cloud. She shook vigorously and the cloud part came off but there is still a stem like part on her eye. The cotton part I thought columnaris but with a stem? She's breathing quite heavy and didn't seem interested in food, none of the others seem infected. Which would be the best way to tell what kind of infection it is and what's the best way to treat? I do not have a hospital tank, the only thing I could use would be an empty 2.5g betta tank.
  14. Any chance someone is bringing some Crystal Red or Black shrimp?
  15. I don't know enough about bichirs to tell you when they'll have a growth spurt but I was wondering if you have plans for a bigger tank in the future?
  16. Ok, thanks everyone That gives me a general idea.
  17. I do guess... I'm just nit picking details. Just wondering Jay - I feel bad for them too
  18. Thanks I just bought a beautiful half moon... He's small and I expect him to grow still, every betta I've had has grown from when I first got him/her. If I had any experience with betta fry I'd probably have a better idea. I'm mostly curious because when I tell nonfish people how long they live they say "Really? How old is yours?" and I have to admit I can only tell them how long I've had the fish.
  19. The Bettas you see in the stores, how old, in general, do you think they are? It may be a strange thing to wonder about and yet here I am... wondering LoL.
  20. ^ I second that. I have a 55g with labs and acei and they get along well... they also reproduce like crazy.
  21. I'm in Edmonton, if someone wants some clear males they can have them. I'm just noticing that there are a lot of clearish ones and not so many of the really red ones anymore. Originally I was selling a mixture of female and male. I think I'd like to introduce some new blood but want to reduce the population a bit first though. I also want to get back into the crystals. I've always thought of it as the cycle of life when I fed ramshorn snails to my puffers... but I don't like snails so that's easier!
  22. I've read a few times about people culling the colourless RCS and I was wondering what would be the best/most humane way to do it? It was even suggested by someone to use them as feeders for the puffers and betta. I'm not sure how I feel about that.
