  1. Blast! She spat maybe 5 or 6 eggs. I still see 3-4 in her mout though. It was my fault I didnt let her into the new tank smothly she kinda flopped. Is there any chance she may pick them up, or they could survive with out her?
  2. That was quick. I will get her out ASAP. Thanks Kyle
  3. I already have labs and Acei out the ying yang, but they are nice. Maylandia estherae are nice too. I was looking what one of our sponsors has for Malawi F1 and WC peacocks. Not that thats all im interested in but thats all I had time for then. Seem to be some nice ones. I have never kept peacocks. I kinda want a show stopper though.
  4. with labs and Acei I have had the best luck with taking the mom out and letting her stay in her own tank till she spits then taking her out. Would that work here too? or will she spit the egg/fry? I dont want the fry eaten.
  5. I have one last 90g to fill. I was thinking a species tank with something really pretty, best if both sexes look nice but could be dimorphic. I was thinking of a male only tank but am not sure of that idea. Any stocking suggestions? I would prefer fish I can find locally, preferably even off people from here. I have never ordered away, but if there is something unbelievable I would have to order I would consider it. They certainly do not have to be WC but I would like to know they are in the F1 to 5 range kinda thing. No hybrids. I'm not keen of Strain breed either, IE many peacocks or weird mutants.
  6. The lead does leach out but Im not sure of the rate, and so the declorinator may be able to handle it? I think lead crystal is not as common now too? Cool idea, and nice bowl.
  7. Its hard if not impossible for local stores to compete with online pricing, especially from the US. My business deals with this problem. Canada is just to small of a market. And think of the extra cost you are adding by getting it shipped or by going down to the US to pick it up. A couple hour drive to save $20 doesn't really make sense to me, even if you look at you time only costing $10/hour (fairly modest wage in this Provence) plus gas. I'm sure most of us one here make 5-15x that. I dont mean to brow beat you, I'm a cheap guy and like to get a deal too, but often once you build a relationship with the local vendors and they see you do a fair bit of business they cut you a bit of a deal.
  8. really no opinions? Well I guess Ill leave them all alone.
  9. don't buy the Eheim 3582 its garbage. It doesn't want to send though NLS pellets or flake. It only works with tetramin crisps, which probably are worse then no food. Stupid corkscrew things.
  10. I got 6 of these guys awhile ago one of which I knew was a male 5 of which thought were females. I think I ended up with 4 males and 2 females. these are 3 that I'm sure are actualy males. This guy is dominant females Its odd they get into it a bit but all in all they all are doing quite well
  11. First the lesson: If you think something is wrong in a tank there probably is so check everything One of my tanks was starting to look a little dirtier every day, but I though its just about the weekend (actually it was just Tuesday) and time for the water change and it is near the end of the month so its time to clean one of the two canisters. But then my wife said the tank didnt look as good as usual. And we were having house guests so I decided the do the water change and filter cleaning a few days earlier. I always start my water changes by unplugging everything and so I looked at the power bar and saw I had forgotten to plug the filter back in from the last cleaning on the weekend. So besides learning to remember to plug everything back in, the more important thing is to take 5 minutes and check things if you suspect something is wrong. I am fixated on my routines for cleaning so it didn't even occur to me that I may have forgotten something so basic. I'm sure most people here would do this kind of proactive checking, but just thought I'd tell my embarrassing little story maybe help someone else down the line.
  12. Take note of this one for sure, Im a firm believer you can almost never have to many circuits. And I forget the actual code on outlet height restrictions but may be a good idea to keep plugs higher off the ground then the normal minimum level to the ground ie have them above tank level.
  13. ya thats it. Man I should have remembered that
  14. Well I got 3 types of fish from Kyle 2 of which I know what I got, the third one I have forgotten what it is. Nothing to fancy here. afra 'cobue' & Oto. lithobates are swimming around but who are the third ones?? I feel like a dummy but I just cant remember or find them in pictures. 15. you could have quite a few. I had 6 in my planted tank. I never saw them bother anyone but each other.
  16. Inspired by kyle's major DIY project (a wooden tank) I decided to try my own small one, and to save my self like $80. The stand is not to impressive yet I will cover it in some kind of wood paneling and add the doors later. But hey not bad for $21 and about 35 min (say an hour with getting the wood). The biggest problem was finding true lumber, most of what the local Rona had would have been for a Salvador Dali tank stand. But I guess it also would have gone with how sloped the floor is. It was kinda fun... maybe I'll do this as a sideline...
  17. great info and awesome tank. Hope I get the chance to see it one day... Ive never seen a plywood tank before
  18. I would level from the bottom, you can get shims from rona or Home Dep or if you are more certain of the 3/8th you could get a peace/strip of plywood to run along the floor. I had a similar problem when I set up on carpet but found that if I move the tank out form the wall a bit the tank leveled out, I believe it was because of the strips used by the walls to keep the carpet down.
  19. Sounds good dont really want to spend more on filters. oh and I meant to say list price for those filters ~$320. I was going to ask you where to get a FX5 for $250 may be worth it anyway if you wouldn't mind PMing me with that info.
  20. Right now I have a 90g with 2 Rena XP4's running on it and a second with 2 AC110 (500). The first tank is cichlids the second was planted tropical and has now been shut down so I can move it to Calgary. Here is my issue - I was thinking of evening out the tanks to have an XP4 and a AC110 each; stocked with say 25-30 fish each. Would the removal of on XP4 really disrupt the balance I have now? Because since I have set it up I have had no issues with it and dont really want to bugger it up. If I should get a new filter Im guessing form the recent talk everyone (almost) likes the FX5? What about the Eheim Professional 3? Around the same list price I think.
  21. price fixing, sorry controlling, by manufactures and distributors is just a sorry fact of life I guess in many business areas, especially on the net. I do agree that they are saying that its not really a fixed price though, and can be sold at what ever the store wants. In reality they probably will keep tabs on the real prices certain stores sell at and if they go to low I'm sure there would be some action taken. Basically I think its a bunch of BS that they first are trying to feed us about better service, and the truth is when they say they are trying to protect the integrity/value of their brand. But consumers will decide what price is right for them; there are lost of alternatives.
  22. I like my xp4's or the Eheim pro 3's look sweet
  23. well they didnt explode I put water down the line just to make sure it was full thanks
